Unboxing; Yes Oh Yas! One Last Shot!

Hey guys! Happy on time Monday! The first in…. well, a while. I’ve been getting the same ol’ subscription boxes for the last couple of months, but for whatever reason I haven’t been writing on them. What can I say other than I dropped the ball. This post is a special farewell to Yes Oh Yas, which I’ve been paying for since the middle of last year. I haven’t been impressed by the names included in my shipments.

This could be a thing that’s just me- but if I’m paying upwards of 20 dollars a month, I want big names. Not these unknown little things, you know? I have nothing against indie brands or anything, but honestly, the quality hasn’t blown me away with these. It’s been a consistent disappointment, much like Sephora play. And like Sephora play, this one is also canceled.

This particular shipment had a small, colorful palette from Amorus. The palette was called Lady Boss and is a somewhat juvenile pink, cheetah pattern. Honestly, that’s just me being petty, but I wasn’t a fan of the packaging. I did like the color story of the palette, as it had a nice smattering of colors that looked promising. There was a liquid liner, that I was curious about, that had the usual felt tip. A cute little tube of liquid lipstick, and a lip brush. There’s also a detox bath from Dosi, that I’m super curious about.

For the testing phase on this shipment, I used the palette, liner and lip product. The palette, in all was unimpressive. The colors lacked pigment and did not want to blend. I was was a little happy with the orange which did brighten up the crease a little more than I was expecting. The black in the lower right corner was woefully underperforming, I was a little heartbroken with that turn of events. The liner from Studiomakeup was…. likewise displeasing. I found it a bit hard to work with, with admittedly could be user error, but I did also notice that it dried up on the nib very quickly. The last of the items I used, was the lipstick, and it smelled terrible. A very… rubbery? smell. I’m not sure how to describe the scent, but I wasn’t too into it.

I wanted to show you guys the look I came up with for this particular box. I had to literally dig into the colors to get the pigmentation that we have there.  Also, I want to extend an apology for my aggressive looking brow. I’m not sure what to say except for- “oh”.

Rating
2.5/5

I don’t think I have to say too much about this rating, since I kind of tore into them, honestly. The subscription service is not bad, by any means and maybe I was unfair. My biggest gripe is that I feel like the cost isn’t quite justified at $17.00 or more for each shipment, I’m not able to say it’s worth it. I’m moving over to Ipsy Glam Bag Plus, which is like 4 dollars more and looks to include some of the high-preforming items I’m more interested in. Maybe I’m just boujee?

Unboxing; Surprising Discovery From Yes Oh Yas

Hey guys, I’m back with a little bit of a late unboxing for December 2018. No joke, I got this on December 29th, so it was almost a little too late. This box actually had a brand I was familiar with, and that you may remember from a long ago post. The Wholesale Makeup Event I covered a few months ago. Beauty Creations. I know I was pleasantly surprised by their quality from that sale, but since getting them I haven’t revisited them.

Maybe that’s a shame, because even though they appear to be a knockoff brand, they seem to have a pretty solid formula. I applied this makeup at about 6:30 AM to get ready for work. And the gold shadows I went with were phenomenal for what they are. I’ll admit that I do need to brush up on my eye shadow technique, but barring any obvious improvements I can make, I quite enjoyed these shadows.

The thing that had me a little confused was the color correcting concealer palette- I don’t think I liked that too much. I just don’t see the purpose of them over actual concealer like my trusty shapetape. The only one I got any real use out of was the Peach tone, which I put under my eyes. Overall, I wasn’t digging the effect.

The other items being that liquid lip and a brush, I’ll speak on the liquid lip. I liked the color, I didn’t however, like that it felt like it never completely dried down. It remained tacky until it finally wore off 4-5 hours later. All things considered, that’s not bad lasting power.  I did replace it with my Glitterflip while at work because I forgot to bring this one.

This post is little on the simple side for me, and guys, I apologize for that. I have some matters that I’m currently dealing with, but I didn’t want to leave you guys high and dry. I think I’ll end this post with the wear-test results!
Honestly, I wanted to try a gif this once, to show off the eye shadow. I feel like taking the pictures with the whole eyes-closed thing is super awkward. The liner is KVD Dagger liquid liner and obviously held up fairly well. I bought it before I knew of the controversy, but I’m determined to get my money’s worth out of it.

My basic feelings about this shipment from YOY, is that it feels low-value in comparison to IPSY, which delivers recognizable larger brands. The quality in these products did surprise me. And I do want to note quickly, that I don’t know much about brushes so I can’t really speak on this one. As well as the mask, which I haven’t had occasion to use it yet in the course of everything going on.

I do hope to bring you guys some travel content soon as we prepare for potential first out-of-state Weekend of Content! Stay tuned for Thursday!

Unboxing; Let’s Ipsy again!

Unboxing; Let’s Ipsy again!

Hey, guys! It’s time for another Ipsy unboxing! Ipsy has been my favorite subscription box for a couple of years, and they hold that title still. To be perfectly fair, I wasn’t able to post about this particular bag sooner due to the 7 days of Halloween and after that I had content planned. So, we’re going to start our catch up with this.

Okay, so that’s what we got in the bag this month. I’ll go in order of excitement and end on my #1 item! We got that vampy nail polish, it’s the brand Sundays in #18. I haven’t had a chance to test this, but I’ll come out and admit that it’s what I’m the least excited about. I’m not too big into nail polish right now, because I’m using acrylics. But, even if I were using polish this color is way too dark for me. I may throw it into a giveaway or something, once I get more items!

I think if I had to pick my next least favorite thing, I’d have to go with the sleep masks. I’m getting into masks lately, and my skin is grateful. But, I’m not sure how I feel about sleeping in one. I tend to toss and turn in my sleep, so I’d have it all over my pillows. I’ll still try it, because I do love masks. These are my favorite kind too! Mud masks are my jam! So aside from the whole sleep thing, I’m at least a little excited for these!theBalm Bronzer in Oliver

They also sent me bronzer from Thebalm. This is a brand I’m not really too familiar with. I know that my best friend owns one of  their palettes that she likes quite a lot. I will say that I do like the way they do their designs. It looks almost like a booklet. I believe that they gave me a really good shade for me. I played with it a little bit and di make it looks okay (by my standards, at least). This is something I was a little hype about, because I really want to figure out contouring.

Nomad shadow in Norrsken N04Okay, so, the shadow. I looked at the app so I could cheat and see what I had coming, I saw that they were sending me another eyeshadow. If you guys could see my bathroom, you’d know that I love shadows. Ipsy has a bad habit of sending me pink shadows that I typically don’t wear. When I saw there were two possible colors I could get, my immediate thought was that I was going to get another pink. But, they picked better this time! This blue is a beautiful cerulean color, seriously, just check it out. On second thought, it might be a little less cerulean and more plain ol’ blue. I think I’ll actually be using this, and I was actually really excited to see that it was blue and not pink this time!

Are you sitting down? This next thing knocked my socks off, no joke. Or, well, it would have had I been wearing socks! I’ve been considering buying Tarte’s shape tape concealer but can’t stop buying palettes long enough to grab it. That and apparently the price tag is a little steep to me for a small tube. Now, I know why the hype. This is fantastic. Not only is it the product I’ve been looking at for a few months, but it’s the perfect color for me. Once this sample is gone, I may be able to finally justify the purchase!

Quick update time! I do plan to begin doing unboxings on Youtube so I can expand my reach a little. I’m brainstorming other things I can do there, too. So keep an eye out for updates on that! Also, I did just add a whole new page to the site! If you click on my Discounts link, you’ll find my affiliate codes. You guys can score some pretty good loot at a discount, so be sure to check that out!

I also got Allure, Sephora Play!, Lip Monthly and I want to say there’s another, off the top of my head, I want to say it was Yes oh Yas.Those will be in an October Masterpost that is planned to go up before the end of the month but after my Black Friday post!

Unboxing; This Box is a Birch

Hey, there guys! I finally got my Birchbox a little bit late! This one was for the month of September, and this was another case where I thought I had signed up too late to get the goods. It’s okay! Any goodies are good goodies, right? Especially where makeup is concerned!

If you’re not familiar, Birchbox is another monthly beauty box service, like Ipsy. Unlike Ipsy, Birchbox doesn’t provide a cute or fashionable makeup bag for your purse, they give you a colorful box instead. I did test everything, so let’s have a look!

At first, I was completely underwhelmed by this delivery. It was a real rollercoaster. I was excited to get the package but once I opened it, I was hit with an “oh, is that it?”.  What we have here is, from right to left, leave in conditioner, Arrow color enhancing balm, Collagen eye pads, Mac 3D mascara and dry shampoo.

If you’re saying “Is that it?”, believe me, I totally shared that sentiment until I starting playing with it. The first thing I broke into was the M.A.Cscara. It took two applications to get some decent length from it, but true to the advertising my lashes weren’t clumpy. It provided some nice lift and in no way weighed my lashes down. I give this product a 4/5 because it could have been a little more pigmented.

That color enhancing balm from Arrow, is really an understated thing that had me a little disappointed. I did put it on and got some subtle shine and it did bring out the pink in my lips a little more. It kind of makes them pop. I will say that it doesn’t really smell like much, which was a disappointment. Because, I really like scented balms, but I can live without scent. I think this may be a staple in my purse soon, just because you can never have too many balms. I’d rate this a 4/5 too, I’m detracting a point for scent because that irks me just a little.

I think I’ll combine the Shampoo and leave in conditioner here. The dry shampoo smells really good, I sprayed it on my roots from the recommended 8 inches and brushed it through. My hair’s on day 2, so I’m due for a wash. This did bring some life back to my hair, so I may be using it in travel emergencies when we find ourselves on the road. On another plus, both of these are the perfect travel size to keep stashed in my purse! Score! This conditioner honestly smells so good, the closest I can get is Vanilla which is great. I can’t wait to break this out during a vacation. I’d rate these at a 5/5.

The last thing in this box was the Collagen Mask from Wilma Schumann. I’ve never used any Collagen items before now, so I wasn’t sure what to do. I slapped these under my eyes at the end of the day and I felt them working almost immediately. At first, I thought it was burning, but what was happening was an intense cooling and hydrating effect. I kept them there for the recommended 20 minutes (I think). When I took it off, I honestly didn’t notice any real difference. I’m wondering if maybe it takes multiple applications to see results? I’d rate this a 4.5/5, I’m not sure if it even did what it was supposed to but I felt dang fancy using these.

I think out of this box, I’d be most likely to stock up on the leave in conditioner, just because of the way it smells. While I liked the mascara, I don’t like it enough to spend 24 dollars on it. My Rimmel London ScandalEyes treats me just as well at a fraction of the price.

If I had to give this box a rating in its entirety, I’d give it a 4.5/5 for looking pretty underwhelming but overall performing remarkably. I really enjoyed everything in this box and I can’t wait for the next one to come in!

Unboxing; Ipsy With Me

Unboxing; Ipsy With Me

Who doesn’t love monthly presents? Pretty dang affordable gifts to yourself that you get on a monthly basis? I know that I’m definitely among that number. Guys, I love month subscription boxes. I like when their makeup, geek culture, treats… Currently, I really want one that’s clothing, but I don’t know if I can trust myself to return the items I don’t want. The moment I’m able though, I totally intend to get Stitch Fix. Right now though, I’m only subscribed to makeup boxes. Birchbox, Ipsy, Lip Monthly and Sephora Play. Well…. Lip Monthly I’m just doing a trial run this month. But for sure I’m all on board with the other three.

I wasn’t going to sub to the makeup boxes again because I had stopped doing any makeup at all. Now I’m starting to get back into it in a big way, I figured ‘why not?’ But I wasn’t sold on it until I saw September’s Ipsy bag. Just… it’s so unbelievably cute. I caved and subscribed but Ipsy had told me it was too late to get the bag I wanted.

Lucky me when I got the email letting me know it had shipped! This bag is pretty awesome, guys. Not the best, really, but I did get a really nice blending brush. The first thing I noticed when opening my bag was this amazing quote. I love it and immediately stuck it on Instagram.

Moving on the meat of the bag…

Two sheet face masks! I’m so excited! I really love masks and I’m just starting to amass a huge collection of them in my miscellaneous makeup drawer. I usually prefer mud masks because the sheets are a little hard to match to my face and keep them there. Preference aside, I’m pretty hype to use these!

When I saw this on the Ipsy app, I wasn’t too excited. Pinks are generally a bad color on me. Seeing it in person is a little different, it looks soft enough to be passable. That apparently doesn’t concern me too much, because I just bought the Norvina palette which has a few shimmery pinks that I quite like. I’ll do a tester of it and hope for the best!

This. I don’t think I like this. The Thank Me Later primer is definitely not an item I intend to purchase. I feel like it goes on with an oily texture and then dries to a powder. My fingers felt incredibly greasy after using this. I may give it another chance and see how it goes, but as of right this moment, I don’t think that I like this. If it works for you, great!

Ipsy has spoken, and they want me to use TreStique- I’m not offended. I actually really like these. They sent me one ages ago and I still use it. They have such a great, smooth formula and the pigmentation is lovely. The color doesn’t last super long, but that’s okay because it’s so small that I don’t mind carrying it with me to do touch ups if needed.

Check out that brush! Isn’t it adorable? I haven’t tried it quite yet, beyond blending shadows on my wrists. It’s super soft and flexible. It does its job well so far. The fact that it’s DC-related with the Harley Quinn diamonds doesn’t matter much to me beyond aesthetics.

I’d probably rate this bag a…

3/5

Really, I can’t give it higher based on the fact that they missed their marks with the colors for the most part. I prefer nudes, browns and a few bold colors here and there. I generally reach for red lipsticks rather than pink. So while this lippy is cute, it’s not really all the way up my alley. It’s not a bad bag, I just didn’t jive with their color choices. They weren’t far off their mark.

I hope they get closer next month!
