Quickie: Starbucks Did Something Right

Hey everyone! I’ve been trying to find something rave on from Starbucks (Aside from my old usual mocha frappe), and I found it, in an unlikely place on their menu. I’ve previously, only had the Black and White Mocha, White Chocolate Mocha with caramel and that… cinnamon thing, I had before.

Seriously, the Coconut Milk Vanilla (iced) Latte was fantastic. I’ve never cared too much for coconut milk, and I’ve surely never had it in my coffee. Thi drink was a surprise and a half, after the first taste, I was hooked. It had a very harmonious flavor with the coconut and vanilla mixing, and left me feeling very zen.

Without a doubt, this is a great vacation drink. If you enjoy coffee that tastes a little stronger, with a very down-to-earth sweetness, this is the drink for you!

I see you Starbucks, good job!

~*~ Birthday Pre-Party ~*~

We have a very special birthday post coming at you today! I turned 28 on the 20th and am not happy about it, truth be told. To ease my mood, we started celebrating early! My dear friend and our beloved fashion writer joined myself and my fiance’ for the festivities, most of which was of the consumable variety.

For dinner, we went to O’Charley’s again, and I was treated to their delectable garlic butter filet mignon, broccoli, and Caesar salad, for dessert we had their wonderfully filling and rich Caramel pie. For my drink, of course, I had the Cotton Candy Fizz. On a side note, would you believe that 3 Walmarts and a Target failed to have Cotton Candy so I can recreate this wonderful thing at home? I’m considering buying a cotton candy machine.

Jeans and I rounded off the day with some much needed retail therapy- we left H&M emptyhanded but I struck gold later on at Charlotte Russe when I found this amazing tulle skirt, that is already up on Instagram., I’m apparently cosplaying as a Tumblrette tomorrow- tiara and all. I also bought myself a birthday coloring book and sloth journal to keep track of ideas for future posts on the go because I greatly prefer to write ideas on paper. Behold!

I am so ready to find my holy grail satchel purse so  I can carry my multiple notebooks around!

~*~ Day (two) zero ~*~

On the big day, we took advantage of the many birthday offers I’ve gotten in my email over the past month. The first one was Ihop where I was treated to their delicious sweet cream crepes, unfortunately, I did have to tell them it was my birthday so we could get the pancakes, and they ended up coming to table and singing their birthday song (I didn’t know how to even react- just quietly pout and drink my splash berry).

Jeans and I left there and headed to Plato’s Closet, where I continued my ill-fated search for the holy grail of satchels. My search was fruitless, but we did find some good deals that I couldn’t commit to. One was a 90 dollar bag with the price tag that was being sold for 16 dollars and the other what looked like a knockoff Versace. In the end, I walked out empty-handed and walked right into a Clothes Mentor which was amazing. I didn’t even know we had a place for affordable name brands. I have never seen so many expensive purses for my budget. I didn’t walk out empty-handed this time.

To be perfectly fair, I’m looking for a crossbody satchel to hold my sketchbook, sloth book and maybe my computer (the latter not totally needed, but would be enjoyed). I found a few cute Coach bags in my budget that checked off a few of my boxes, but not all. Is it still settling if it’s Coach? I ended up selecting this gorgeous mid-2000s Coach crossbody. Not really important, but the inside is really pretty pink, which was a box I didn’t know I needed to be checked. And, I may be a peasant but, I’m very impressed by the stanp of authenticity.

Thank you, Clothes Mentor for my first designer bag!

I did include in that picture the birthday gift that my fiance’ gave me this year- Superfight, it’s like Cards Against Humanity but with ridiculous superheroes. I highly recommend this game if you enjoy Cards Against Humanity or Apples to Apples.

The Peachtree Mall has so many great stores with some amazing selections, but in comparison to Clothes Mentor, the selections fell flat. I guess after being around the high-quality items everything else felt lackluster, I guess I know where I’m shopping on the regular. We did get a good deal on this amazing lotion from Bath and Body Works from their new Water line that’s made with Hyaluronic Acid and is supposed to be great for dry skin- I can attest to that, because guys, my. hands. feel. awesome.

The last leg of our day was to get dinner, which was unremarkable- but we did get Starbuck’s colored drinks- I got the Pink Drink, because my aesthetic for my birthday is Pretty Pretty Princess. Jeans got the Purple Drink.

I’ll do a brief review on the Pink Drink, but since it’s a bundled sort of review with the entire festivities. Honestly, this drink deserves a spot on my Summer Drink list and if that post hadn’t already gone up, I’d definitely add this. It’s amazingly refreshing and fruity. I felt like I was relaxing on some beach in Florida with this, really, it’s phenomenal. Fruity, light with a slight strawberry flavor underneath what I assume is the Acai. I may or may not be mildly obsessed with this.

Also, as a sort of debut for myself and my questionable fashion taste, a photo of us! As you can see we’re having a blast enjoying our pink and purple berry refreshers at one of the happiest places on earth!

Your writers, Java and Jeans! My aesthetic today was pretty princess, apparently

Three Cool Drinks to Flavor Your Summer

Hey, everyone! Here in the south, the weather is becoming steadily more summer-like as we leave the moody and grey winter behind us. Now the question isn’t how to stay warm, but how to cool off. The days are topping out at the mid-90s and it’s only getting started- but I already can’t wait for the fall.

In honor of the seasons finally getting their act together, I’ve decided to begin my foray into beverages (and not just painting… er, drinking myself into a corner), with a list of 3 of my top picks to help you cool down this summer.

 3. Starbucks- Very Berry Hibiscus Refresher

This was my first experience drinking a tea that was flavored with literal flowers, and I only tried it because I wanted something -new-. I didnt’t expect to enjoy it, but oh man. I love this drink. When I was a child, I had multiple flowering hibiscuses in my yard that bloomed all summer long. Starbucks captured the memories I have of running around the yard so sweetly scented by their blossoms. The flavor isn’t overbearing and there’s no trace of bitterness. The berries do nothing to take away from the feeling, either, but rather lend their sweetness to the overall blend. I’m so thrilled that it’s summer again, aside from the heat, because that means I can get this again!

When I get it, because I’m difficult, I change the berries to Strawberries. Not only is the drink delicious, but it’s the perfect summer drink to show off on instagram due to its pink color.

2. Applebees- Strawberry Daiquiri

This one is the first drink featured on the blog that you need to be 21 or older to enjoy, and for good reason, guys. Where Applebees may sometimes fall behind in terms of service, they have always exceeded my expectations in the alcohol department. When I get the daiquiri I make a small change and add Malibu Coconut Rum to make it a little creamier. Believe me when I say, it makes an amazing drink even better. It feels like I’m lounging on the beach or at a bar on an island.

They really don’t play with portions, either. The drink you get is huge and well worth the cost. If you’ve got a stressful job, school work is piling up or you just plain want to take a mini (albeit mental) vacation, I can’t recommend this drink highly enough.

1. O’Charley’s- Cotton Candy Fizz

I know I just wrote a post on this one, but can you blame me for choosing this as my number one pick for the summer? The summer is when fairs begin cropping up everywhere and the smells of fairground food and cotton candy tempt you to break any diet that you’re trying to adhere to. So when it came time to choose my number one drink for the summer, my inner child wouldn’t quit about this drink.

The sweetness is the perfect level due to the sugary, pink cloud that gets shoved into (what I assume is) club soda. It has just the right amount of strawberry flavor too- really I’m just psyched about this one, because it feels like an easier Shirley Temple. Maybe I don’t have to stock up on 7 Up and Grenadine?

My jumpy gif doesn’t do it justice, seriously.

Convenience Coffee; Gimme S’more

Let’s face it, it’s expensive to go to cafes` for coffee every time. This new series is to combat that, much like the other series I have on the burner. Convenience Coffee is going to cover those delightful beverages that call themselves coffee you find at convenience stores- much like the one I have with me today that’s going to be my pilot, featuring the Starbucks S’mores coffee beverage.

You probably know what it looks like, but I’m going to post a photo anyway because I think my posts look naked without at least one photo. On the first impression, I really got my hopes up on this one. I was bamboozled!

The Mugshot:

Starbucks S'more's Bottled Coffee
The fun begins

On opening it, I was hit by an almost sickeningly sweet smell, that was a little like overbearing graham crackers. The overall consistency is downright watery, which is to be expected as I imagine with this sort of thing. I sucked it up and took a sip, and it actually tastes better than it smells. I was pleasantly surprised with how soft the flavor was, but still somehow remarkably S’mores like. It does have a little bit of a strange flavor on its tail, though. I’m not sure what it is, or what it’s supposed to be, but that only thing I can relate it to is soap.

I don’t make a habit of chugging Dawn dish soap, so this lingering flavor is uncalled for. As with Starbucks in general (per my experience as of this moment), it’s a little underwhelming in the quality department. But to be fair to the product, it is a coffee drink. Much like Capris Suns aren’t really juice, I’m willing to bet you this isn’t really coffee. But it pretends.

Really not too terribly pleased with this particular one, I’ve had a few of their coffee drinks and they all rather fall flat with me. I’ll hopefully bring you guys some quality Convenience Coffees in the near future. There’s one in particular that I can’t wait to tell you about (my absolute favorite canned coffee beverage)!

I don’t think I’ll bother really doing a legit rating system for this series, since it’s premade and everything- so I don’t think it really qualifies for my other rating system.

For the soapy taste, watery consistency, and eventually unimpressive taste, all I can say about this particular drink is…

Columbus, GA; Citrus and Cinnamon

City: Columbus, GA
Stop: Starbucks
Drink: Iced Cinnamon and Almondmilk Macchiato
Extras: Dreamsicle Pancakes

On a down day, we drove around our hometown with in search of the next adventure closer to home. We settled on a wonderful little gem of a breakfast place called Ruth Ann’s. Their signature breakfast item is the captain crunch French toast, which is TO DIE FOR. However, since I’ve had that before and our food writer is going to cover that, myself and Armani landed on the current special for the weekend of Dreamsicle pancakes.

The pancakes were softly citrus with most of the cream flavor coming from the made-in-house whipped cream. It was definitely orange cream but more subtle. We were pleasantly surprised, though next time I’ll probably get the French toast again.

Afterward, we went in search of a coffee place. Wouldn’t you know, basically all of them within 50 miles are closed. Dejected, we went to Starbucks.

I’ve probably tried everything on the main menu, so in the spirit of newness (I’ll visit the other drinks later), I tried the special iced cinnamon almond milk macchiato.

The drink itself was a like drinking a cinnamon roll dripping in espresso. The bitterness of the initial sip faded after a moment into the memory of cinnamon rolls. I stirred it to attempt to disburse the flavor, and found a jelly-like blob of cinnamon near the bottom. Maybe I should have stirred it more?

After a while, I stopped noticing the bitter undertones and just noticed the cinnamon. All in all, the drink isn’t for me but if you enjoy a drink with a fair amount of espresso flavor with a lingering spice it might be for you!

Instagrameter; Starbucks /5

I didn’t take too many pictures inside because Starbucks is fairly uniform from one to the other- if you want to photograph colorful drinks (Unicorn Frapp, anyone?) it’s perfect. Good for students just looking to get out of the house, if you want strong coffee there are better places to get that fix. As far things that will get you going on an early morning commute when the little local places aren’t open yet, Starbucks will scratch that coffee itch.
