Starbucks Does Valentines Day With The Cherry Mocha

Hey Guys! Today’s post is brought to you by Starbucks- because my roots are showing. And my roots are super crazy about the sweet, dessert-like beverages that Starbucks comes out with. Even though Japan usually gets better drinks than we do over here in the states. Like the Princess frappe that I feel really hurt about still. I may have heard about the Cherry Mocha a little late, which isn’t new. I generally am a little behind the curve. But I’m still hype that I at least heard about it!

Even though I bet Japan has more options, we did get a Cherry Mocha for the big day, and the one thing I’ll say negative about it is that I think it would have been more geared toward the holiday if they had capitalized on the whole pink thing that monopolizes everything about romance. Like, I kind of feel like they missed with that decision. But, that aside, the flavor really raises to the aesthetic. This Cherry Mocha tastes like the Cherry Cordial candy that I always think I like more than I do. And I mean that- it tastes exactly like a Cherry Cordial.

This is really more like dessert, but honestly, what else is new. It’s a great example of Starbucks doing what Starbucks does best- sweet coffee that may as well be a milkshake. That’s literally not even a diss, though it sounds like one. It has the richness of dark chocolate, with a little sharpness, which makes me think of the Ghirardelli 70% cacao chocolates. I love dark chocolate, so I’m kind of all about it. The cherry adds a little bit of tartness to the flavor, which is delicious. I don’t even really like cherry flavors, generally, I’m a raspberry girl.

Honestly, I can see myself begging to stop by Starbucks on Valentine’s day just for this. I’ve been hooked on it for the past week since I caught wind of it. There’s just something about drinking a chocolate covered cherry topped with whipped cream and granulated sugar that speaks to me on so many levels. It’s sweet, it’s rich, it’s something that I’ve been trying to like for years in a package that works for me. For some reason, I don’t like cherry cordials, but I thoroughly enjoy the Cherry Mocha.

Valentines Day is in 3 days, guys! I hope you guys are ready and that those of who don’t have anything planned for the occasion at least take time to pamper yourself!

Update;

I know I kind of died with Youtube, I was sick for so long and literally had no voice, I do have a load of products that recently got here that I’m testing for future videos as well as I’m working on the tarteist pro remix video. I’ll be cross posting it here. Please be gentle with me guys, we can learn all of this crazy stuff together! đŸ™‚

On the 4th day of Christmas Starbucks gave to me (roundup!)

Who doesn’t love seasonal treats that only come out once a year? Everyone has their favorite Christmas Guilty (or, not so guilty) pleasures. Mine, as well as a host of others, love Starbuck’s seasonal offering. As displayed by my Halloween Coffee post, I love Holiday drinks! So of course, I took myself to Starbucks to try each of their seasonal brews!

Caramel Brulee

This is my number one pick from the current line up over at Starbucks. I love sweet things, and by that logic, I love caramel. Which definitely accurate. This drink is a great substitute if you’re tired of the same old peppermint. I never thought I’d be tired of the peppermint mochas, despite loving them so so so much.

This drink has a nice smooth finish, the majority of the flavor is caramel but that tapers off into a mellow espresso flavor. It’s a delicious winter drink that I can’t recommend enough if you fit these two requirements:

  1. You love any and all things Starbucks
  2. You’re like me, and you love sweets

This would be a great drink to sip as you hang out with the girls, or a relaxing night in by the fire with your partner!

Toasted White Chocolate Mocha

This one, I didn’t manage to grab a picture of. But as you’d imagine, that’s far from a travesty being that so many of the drinks look the same and taste so different. This one, to me, was not really -good- different. I generally don’t enjoy fruity flavors in my coffee, I’m cream all the way. This latte has a dusting of cranberry sugar on top, and the mingling flavors of caramel and mocha. Strangely, this one is actually too sweet for me and the surplus of sugar comes across bitter somehow.

If you’re really, and I do mean really into sweet coffees and enjoy a touch of fruitiness in your coffees for the holidays, this might be for you. And I think I’m going to let you guys have this one.

Gingerbread Latte

One of the ones I was excited to try this year was the Gingerbread latte, despite not being too huge on gingerbread. I did try this as a frappe a while back, which you can see below. I made the mistake of thinking that I liked Gingerbread a lot. Oh boy was I was wrong. It was too much. During a raining evening after work, I decided to give with the hot variant a try for this post!

Really feeling festive here lately! It’s not quite time yet, but why not break out the #gingerbread ? . . #coffeelover #coffeelife #coffeeholic #caffeine #coffeebreak #instacoffee #coffeelovers #coffeeaddict #coffeelove #coffeeoftheday #coffeetime #coffeecup #coffee #morning #yummy #drink #starbucks #gingerbreadfrappe

While this isn’t my usual thing, it’s not bad at all. Each sip has a nice spice to it that is brought down by the somewhat harsh espresso. I’m not sure that I’ll be getting this one again, because I really don’t care for ginger. It’s pretty true to what it’s based off it. I think it’s a loving homage to a traditional Christmas treat. It’s not my favorite thing on this list, but it’s also not my least favorite. It’s squarely in the middle. If you guys want to enjoy a Gingerbread cookie without the hassel of… y’know, eating it, this is for you! I will add really quick, that I did really like the frappe. I would not recommend pairing it like I did, unless you love ginger.

Juniper Latte

It’s beginning to taste a lot like Christmas! I was finally able to drag myself over to @Starbucks to try the #juniperlatte that I’ve been so curious about! Look for it in one of the upcoming posts for the #12daysofchristmas . . #coffeelover #coffeelife #coffeeholic #caffeine #coffeebreak #instacoffee #coffeelovers #coffeeaddict #coffeelove #coffeeoftheday #coffeetime #coffeecup #coffee #morning #yummy #drink #holidaycoffee

I know this post is a little late to the party with the Juniper Latte, but guys, life. That’s all I have to say. Times is hard, in the immortal words of Ms. Lovett.

Anyway, I did make it in to taste this unique brainchild. Of course, I sniffed it first to see what the smell was like. It smelled almost savory, which is not a thing I associate with my coffee. The overall flavor is woodsy. It’s sprinkled with sage, so it has a bit of an herbal taste as well. I made the mistake of taking a large swallow, thinking it was coke, and holy. crap. Immediate regret. It has a sharp, earthy aftertaste and not even the good bite of espresso. My question to Starbucks is this: why. Why would you market this? Come on. I guess I understand, it’s a unique idea. “Hey, let’s make a coffee that tastes like a tree,” because of course, we have to try it.

I’m a little rusty on my coffee reviewing skills, and guys, I took a sip and that aftertaste hits hard. I don’t think I’ll be getting this again. Literally, all I can say now that I couldn’t say before is “I drank tree flavored coffee”. And is that a bragging right I really want to have?

I was really hoping to wrap this post up on a positive note. I was hoping it was going to have more a piney, vaguely evergreen vibe. How wrong I was. If you guys took one for the team, what were your thoughts? Will you be buying it again?

With that trainwreck, we wrap up another day of our countdown! We still have more on the schedule, so be sure to check back tomorrow! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to find some coffee to hold me over til tomorrow!

Lacking the Holiday Spirit? Try these three small things to capture it again!

Hey guys, and welcome to day 9 on our countdown! You guys may notice a change in format going forward- I realized that I did the countdown thing for Halloween and after some thought, countdowns are boring. That’s the absolute last thing I want to be, which I think that’s something we may have in common. I’ve been trying to think of what kind of post to write for today, and it hit me that I could share some ideas for those of you who are in my boat and trying to fall in love with the season again.

The holidays when I was growing up, meant something so much more different to me. It was a time of childhood wonder and awe, waiting up for Santa, waking up to see presents that weren’t there before. We also had these huge parties where relatives from all over the South would meet and bring dishes and desserts. My family home was always spectacularly decorated and had this fantastic tree that was surrounded by presents of all sizes and colors for the children.

Sadly, as it goes, we all grow up. As I grew, my childhood wonder became jaded and cynical and somewhere along the way the wonder was lost. Santa who? Recently, I find that I’m trying to recapture my previous fervent love of the holidays, so here’s the few ideas that have worked for me!

1. Find a Mission

This one may not apply to everyone in the way it does to me. I’ll be honest, before having this blog… I didn’t care about the holidays. The child I used to be was somewhere in the annals of my past gathering dust. But, since having this site and deciding on a steady post schedule and the occasional holiday ‘event’, I find that I care more.

I want to experience the holidays in a  new way and share them with you guys! While it isn’t possible for me to do it exactly in the ways that I want right now, I’m using our first holidays together to get ideas for next time or the time after that. Life, and evidently the holidays is a learning process.

You may not have a website that you’re compelled to keep posting on, but maybe the idea of having a story to share will be motivation enough to at least give a hint of that spark back.

     Try

  • Bullet Journaling
    • Make holiday themed cover pages to perk yourself up
    • Create weekly or monthly themes!
    • This can be an extremely creative outlet if you want it to be!
  • Scrapbooking
    • Invest in a fujiffilm Instax and snap pictures to hold for years to come
    • Decorate the pages in bright, festive colors
  • Go the virtual alley
    • use Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter or Instagram to share your holiday story or get inspiration
    • Pinterest can practically drown you in holiday inspo when you’re in need!

2.Revisit Tradition

Holidays have things associated with them and or good reason. Visiting some of the tried-and-true symbols of the season can rekindle that spark! One thing that perks me up every year is peppermint everything. It’s such a refreshing and reinvigorating flavor that gives me life. I look forward to Peppermint Mocha every year.

One other thing I’m not too big on but that I have to try every year, is Gingerbread. Either take the time to fail at building a house or just get straight to the end and eat the poor homeless thing. I don’t like gingerbread, but it’s like Cranberry Sauce at Thanksgiving. I have to have some.

Despite not tasting too great, these little guys make great treats!

Aside from those, I love Hot Cocoa to take me back. Cocoa is a thing that I’ve always had a softspot for. Just sprinkle in some marshmallows, festive sugar sprinkles and maybe some whipped cream and you have the perfect nostalgic treat.

3. Location, location, location

It’s no secret that atmosphere is everything- our environment can influence our entire outlook and even our mental health. It makes sense that our decor and bring the cheer. Try to surround yourself with things that remind you of the holidays. Last year I set to work making stockings for my fiance and our animals (yeah, I’m that person) and it really made me perk up. Something about doing something productive to prepare for Christmas jump-starting my festive spirit.

Try to drive around and check out Christmas decorations, or attend a light event at a botanical garden. Just seeing beautiful things can sometimes elicit those feelings!

We hope to attend Fantasy in Lights at Callaway Gardens, to share with everyone here!

Seeing beautiful and cheerful things can kind of force us to feel the things we remember from long ago- I mean, just looking at the lights up above makes me happy. I’m getting so excited to go check it out myself!

I hope you found these ideas at least a little bit helpful, if you’re like me and lost touch with your inner-child. If these ideas work for you, or you’ve found other ones that worked for you, share those below!

6 Ghoulish Treats from PSNT

Hey guys! Happy Second Day of Halloween! Who would love to get cupcakes in your treat bag for Halloween? I’d like to point out how messy and impractical that would be before announcing that I kind of did just that! Sans the bag of course.  Petite Sweets n Treats came through!

I talked to the lovely Francine over at Petite Sweets N Treats to make us some JNJ approved Halloween treats! I didn’t give her any specifications, other than “We need Halloween cupcakes- have fun!”. This post really is a surprise for me too, I had no idea what I was getting into by asking a baker to whip us up this batch of cakes!

I’m not sure how much commentary these need, since they’re delicious and just the right amount of creepy. If you want to use these amazing cakes as a springboard for your own creepy cakes, be sure to share it with us and tag @java_and_jeans on instagram so we can drool too!

I threw these into a gallery to inspire you, and maybe tempt you to try your hand at cake decorating. Just looking at these when I picked these up made me want to see what I could do if I make my own treats.

Guys, in true Petite Sweets n Treats Fashion, these are delicious! Pardon the lack of cutting pictures of Pennywise. That’s a surprise for someone at work and I wanted to wait to dig in. I hope these are able to inspire you this Halloween to try something new and adventurous with your desserts.

Who knows, maybe you can make them for the movie night coming up! Just a quick reminder, I’ll be hosting two movies on October 30th at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM EST. Showtime will end at about 11:00 PM EST. The link is here!
