9 Ways to Keep Yourself Up When Times Are Down

    Hey there, guys! Look at me, being on time and stuff!  If you guys follow the ol’ Tweet Machine, or even Instagram, you may have heard I’ve been cooped up in the Hospital. No biggie, as I’m bouncing back and will be released tomorrow. Most likely, by the time you read this, I’ll have been released and on my way to pick up the Riviera palette.

     This post is more a cathartic sort of thing, since I went in to edit the ThredUp videos and found that they not only look ridiculous, but they have no sound. And, of course, my current predicament. If you have never had an IV go bad in your wrist, I sincerely hope it stays that way. Typing is actually a little painful, but I’m determined to write this post. And this post, if you clicked in for the title, here are 9 ways to keep yourself cheered up when times, frankly, kind of suck. I’m really trying to push the whole ‘see the good’ thing after a literal lifetime of pessimism. So, let’s get to it!

  1. One of the big things for me right now, is online shopping. It’s horrible, yes. But, I’ve found some great things! Like these adorable Guess Booties, that I’ve legit been hunting for for months. Leave it to me to find them near the end of winter. These Steve Madden Booties, and the Jessica Rabbit x Ciate` collection. I can’t go out to shop, but dangit, that won’t stop me. Not to mention the bounty I’ve found on Reddit. Needless to say, there’s an absolutely asinine amount of reviews in my future.
  2. I’ve been thinking up a load of video ideas to start filming when I get out, and that’s kept me pretty distracted. These will hopefully have sound so that I can post them and stop looking like a big fat liar. I’ve been ‘working’ on videos for months, in between being sick and otherwise incapacitated; I will post these videos!

  3. Remember that you will feel so much better once released. This is more just a mantra, rather than something to do. But, I still find it super important.

  4. Get some quality gaming in!  No better time than your downtime to actively participate in some escapism. Pick your poison and go at it. Want to kill a bunch of things? Done. Want to raise a farm? Done. Go wild!

  5. Learn something new! It’s good to keep your head-parts active, especially when you don’t have much stimulation. Take this time to learn something or even do that schoolwork you’ve been putting off. DuoLingo is great for those of you wanting to dip your toes into new languages!

 6. Look at something pretty! I really like to pull up flickr and check out the amazing urban exploration photos people post in these sprawling French Château. I mean, I absolutely die of jealousy, but it’s still beautiful. Instagram is also pretty good for looking at pretty things, but I’m partial to Flickr. I mean look at this! How do people get this lucky?

  7. Draw or doodle! Generally it’s good to keep your hands and head occupied, but drawing also gives you a little bit of an escape. Draw people who are wearing something outlandish, animals, fantastic landscapes, whatever you can fathom. Maybe mindlessly doodle, it all helps. I mean, heck, you have time. I’m looking at you, me.

  8. Relish in doing nothing- how often is it that you get to just do nothing? With the daily grind and weekends spent with extreme wanderlust, not very often. Take this downtime to breathe. It’s not all good, but hey, it’s not all bad, either.

  9. Make something! I can’t do this right now because I don’t have my scarf that I’m working on with me, but like I said earlier, it’s a great idea to keep your hands busy and your mind occupied to help time pass. Crochet, Knitting, Crossstitch, Embroidery… these are all great to do if you find yourself in a similar situation. And my goodness, how I’d love to work on my scarf.

 

       There’s my 9 things to help you keep optimistic and okay when times are less than ideal. And let’s face it, times aren’t always ideal, so you may need to bookmark this for when times go on the decline again. Because, this life is a rollercoaster of highs and lows and you kind of have to adjust to be able to handle both as they come.

       I know I’m not your real mom, but try not to take the mobility for granted. The ability to just go, whenever is great. And, coincidentally greatly missed when you’re not able to do it.
