Hey guys, happy Good Friday! I know I fell off of doing the unboxings of my makeup subscriptions, but I hope to be able to get back to them. Today, I checked the mail and had my Lip Monthly bag, as well as my Allure Box. Honestly, Allure hasn’t impressed me since Christmas. I mean, you can’t really top a box that is hand picked by NikkiTutorials. This particular one actually surprised me when I looked inside!

Right off the bat, I was excited for a Natasha Denona single, even though at this point, I feel like I have enough her shadows. I’m always willing to accept more. Her formula is superb. There was a Luxie tapered brush, which made me pretty happy too. I’m getting an appreciation for brushes, as I’ve gotten… 3 sets of BH Cosmetics brushes? I feel like they’re great, especially for the price. But I will admit, that I love my Luxie brushes.

A brown Laura Gellar twist up eyeliner was also included in this box. I was thrilled, because I love liners and mostly stick to black, so brown is a nice change of speed. I was working on a look for a twitter tag that I’m participating in and thought it would be nice to have brown to ground the look. It broke. I was… disheartened. I don’t even have a sharpener small enough to bring it back to a point. So I had to make do.

You guys may know that I’m a slight, ABH fangirl. I swoon over every palette and am only missing the Mario one. I rushed out to preorder the Riviera and loose highligter. But, I only had two ABH lip products. One I got from TJ Maxx and one I got on my Black Friday Spree. This one is the Liquid Lip in Pure HollywoodI legit don’t get the Mauve vibes from this. It’s so pale and you almost can’t differentiate it from my skin. It reminds of me of when I’m doing my foundation and I have it on my lips. As much I love ABH, I don’t think I’m feeling this color. I really love their shadow formula, but I do find their lips to be drying so far. So, I might be sticking to their eye and face products.

The last couple of items in this box were a frizz and heat protectant, it smells strongly of oranges and reminds me of that orange cleanser that used to live in my Step-Father’s garage. I used to habitually use it and just enjoy the aggressive orange scent of it. I think it was supposed to clean motor oil and stuff like that off of your hands? And, I want to be clear that I don’t mean that negatively. It was a nostaligic scent- but I don’t think I’ll be using this for a while, since my hair is so short right now. The last thing was a packet of tanner wipes, that I’m sure I won’t be using. I have no interest in tanning, so these might get passed off to someone.

I’m fairly pleased with this Allure shipment, so I’ll be keeping this one for a while longer.

Just because I’m so incredibly proud, I want to put my teaser here too for the #candysweets zodiac tag I’m participating in. I’m trying to up my makeup game and learn blending and such. Call me big-headed,but I think I did well on this look!

What did you guys get in your Allure box?

Early Christmas Gift with Allure December 2018 x Nikkie Tutorials

Hey guys! I know this one is going up a touch later than I usually post. I’m not going to lie, I crashed hard last night. We had a dinner party with our close friends, so I had scarce time to prep today’s post! Today is going to be slow day, kind of revisiting beauty boxes. On that note, I did get my December Allure Box, which I was so excited for. In case you may be out of the loop with Allure, they did a Collab with NikkieTutorials, a huge beautuber. Needless to say, I was excited

If you click that link, it’ll take you to her December 2018 video where she discusses this particular box! She’s currently doing her own blogmas sort of event on her channel that I highly recommend if you’re into festive Beauty content. And guys, she goes all out.

Nikkie is the girl that turned me on to Ofra highlights, so I was hoping I would be getting one this month. Seriously, I just knew I wanted more Ofra. So I got the email sometime last week that my box had shipped. Excited, I kept checking the tracking history until the big day!

Isn’t that beautiful? In this box, I got a tiny The Nubian palette from Juvia’s Place, Nyx Lip Lingerie, Ren Clean overnight moisturizer, a single Neutrogena makeup remover, LaSplash Architect liner, and the Ofra All the Highlight highlighter.  On first glance, I was pleased to see that all of the items in this month’s box are cohesive.  I knew that my girl Nikkie would take care of us.

The Nubian Palette has loads of warm neutrals that I was so excited to play with. Juvia’s Place has really affordable products at high quality that I had previously only heard tell of.  You can find Juvia’s Place Palettes at Ulta at around 20 dollars, give or take a couple dollars. Or click the image below for more information about this particular product

I think with the appropriate face products you could make a passable holiday face with these items- which is exactly what I did end up doing. Though, since I am just getting really started with cosmetics, it’s not exactly what I wanted it to be. But, I do think I did a decent job!

The Nyx Liquid Lip looked a little warmer in the tube, but on application it cooled significantly to a subdued brown. I thought that color wasn’t particularly holiday approved, so I tapped on some KVD Everlasting Glimmer Veil in Gold Skool to liven it up just a little.

Before looking closely at the eyes, I thought that the liner was better. That is purely a user error. I did find that the liner performed well and was somewhat easy to work with. I’m still getting my bearings with liquid liner, I’m sure I’ll get there eventually! One thing I will say is that I was pretty proud of the way these lashes came out. I tried full-strip lashes for the first time since I failed with the magnetic ones. These are the Ardell Studio Effects custom lashes, these things definitely have a learning curve and I’m still not sure how to get the glue off of them afterward.

The last thing I’ll bring up is the highlighter. Wow. It’s definitely something. My gripe with it is that the deepest copper tone is almost too pigmented and didn’t look right on my skin tone. I had to go over it with the remaining foundation on my beauty blender and then put on a little concealer before it chilled out. Even then there was still some obvious highlight showing through. I think my mistake was that I did mix all of the colors for my highlight and it’s a mistake I won’t be making again. I’ll definitely be trying this again to get a better feel for it.

I know today’s post is a little lacking in the Christmas Spirit, aside from the cameo appearance of our first Christmas tree in the photo of my loot. I do hope you guys are having a great Holiday break and that you get everything on your wish list. I’m still crossing my fingers for that Tatcha Primer on my end!

On that note, I’ll leave you guys until tomorrow where we get one day closer to Christmas!

October Beauty Unboxing and Catchup!

Hey guys, welcome to another beauty post in a one week period! This time I decided to catch up on the beauty boxes from last month since we’re nearing December. I think I prefer this format, honestly, because this time I played with the items! What I did, and plan to continue doing, is this: I created a full face using items from all of the boxes together. I’ll put the complete look down at the bottom! Now, let’s go ahead and get started!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The first one I’m going to go into is Lip Monthly. It’s a $12.95 a month subscription service that offers 5 full-size products each month. While I think samples are adorable, I rather like full-size because I get more bang with that. This was my first Lip Monthly shipment, and I was so excited! Not only about the prospect of full-size products, but also the super cute bag!

This first Lip Monthly bag was stocked with a Nude Lip, an Orange Lip from Stiks Cosmetics, a Lip Oil, holographic lip gloss from Bella Pierre and an orange lip pencil. The Nude, is, of course, good with any look. The lip oil is perfect for the cooler weather we’re getting and I didn’t even know there was lip oil. The holographic lip gloss is self-explanatory, and the orange pair is odd and was perfect for the spooky times. I thought this bag was great. I’d give my first Lip Monthly a 5/5 for variety!

Next up, we had Sephora play! I’ve been so many people on reddit.com/r/beautyboxes get this subscription and I wanted in on the fun. Especially since I discovered Sephora close by. My first Sephora play provided a few essentials for a full face. Dr. Brandt pore minimizing primer, which I was really excited for. I recently came across from Dr. Brandt cleanser at Marshall’s and realized that it’s pretty up there in price. Sephora also gave me a moisturizer, foundation from Makeup Forever, Clinique lip crayon and Urban Decay All Nighter.

I’ll include a quick review on the items I chose below, so let’s move right along! My first Sephora play box gets a 4/5, because of the foundation being the wrong shade. Not a bad rating by any stretch!

Allure is up next! This is another one I’ve been envious of for while, and finally decided to get. This first box included a dry shampoo, lip balm/treatment, Hourglass mascara, cleanser, lotion, glitter gel and Claudelie serum. I think this box performed pretty fairly, with it’s counterparts. Hourglass is a brand I’ve been curious about for a time, but have been unable to find locally. I was pretty hype about the First Aid Beauty lotion, becaus I had a great experience with them years ago!

My first Allure box gets a 4/5 for usability! I can’t justify a 5 for these items, sadly.

For the last new box, we have Birchbox. Birchbox has always been really hit or miss with me previously. Don’t get me wrong, I like Birchbox. I don’t love it though. The items I got in October was a leave-in conditioner, small bar of natural soap, winky lux cream highlight, a facial moisturizer and nail polish.

Some of this will be useful, but I was generally underwhelmed by this box. I think I’ll throw the conditioner into a travel bag with the dry shampoo from allure. For the rating, I think this one gets a 3/5 because I was unimpressed but it did have some usefulness.

I did include ipsy in that slideshow above, if you want a quick rundown of those items, click here

The Winners!

Alright! We got that out of the way! Like I said, I did decide to do a full face of makeup with just the items from these boxes. From Lip Monthly, I picked the orange lip and pencil duo, because  I thought that color was so unusual and pretty. I’ve never worn orange- that changes now. From sephora, I borrowed the primer and foundation. The primer was tinted a tan color and the scent was somehow medical? It was a fairly strong scent that I wasn’t too crazy about. I will say that a little goes a long way though. The foundation was the incorrect shade, but did seem to blend out nicely with a beauty blender.

From allure I took the ritzy Hourglass mascara, I felt so fancy! It had a great lifting and curing effect on my lashes that I absolutely love. I might end up splurging and ordering this offline!

I took the bronzer, eyeko liner as well as both shadows from Ipsy. The Winky Lux highlight from Birchbox.

The pink shadow was almost a mousse, the texture was really interesting to play with since I’m so used to pressed powders. I swept that onto my lid with my finger and followed that with some of the Nomad blue shadow in my crease and at the outer corner. I made an attempt to wing my liner- the eyeko liner performed very well.  Honestly, I was thrilled- not by my ‘wing’ though.

As I said, the mascara was amazing. Though I’m kind of wishing that I had gone more crazy with the colors on my eyes to make the black pop more.

For my face, I used the moisturizer from Birchbox first. It was unscented and my skin seemed to love it, and it felt nice and hydrating. I dabbed on the Dr. Brandt primer which is when I noticed the smell. At first I liked how rejuvenating it smelled but quickly decided I didn’t actually like it. I quickly layered the foundation on top of it and I’m thrilled to report that I didn’t notice any heaviness on the skin like I do with some foundations. The only thing I notice is that it’s a bit too bronze for me.

I swept on the Bronzer. I like how it’s subtle and not too pigmented. It gives me a little bit of a sunkissed look that I’m enjoying. I think my second favorite thing from this entire haul is probably the high light. The highlighter is pretty much right up my alley. I love it. Just look at that highlight. I’m still learning, but I’m definitely pleased with the application. It blended out beautifully and applied flawlessly. Because my cheeks still looked naked, I patted a little bit of the pink eyeshadow onto my cheeks and blended it outwards. I think I actually kind of prefer the eye shadow as a blush.

The rest is just the lips, which I lined and followed up with the orange lipstick. I’m sure you can tell that I didn’t leave it at that- I used my favorite lashes that I talk about all the time to finish off the look.

Let me know what you guys think of this type of posts. I really enjoy tooling around with makeup and sharing these boxes with you! Do you guys have any subcriptions that you’d recommend?
