Origin Treats us to Christmas Coffee!

Hey guys, we’re T-Minus 1 day to the big event! I’m so excited! Are you guys ready? We already broke some major ground here on the blog with yesterday’s video and I gotta tell you, that was definitely new. I’m hoping to have more content that you guys will be legitimately into as we move on into the new year! After yesterday, all I’m in the mood for is coffee.

The little local place I’m veritably obsessed with, Origin Coffee right here in Columbus has this amazing latte just in time for the Holidays. I thought that the Be Mine from Iron Bank was my Chocolate milk look-a-like, but I hadn’t met this one yet.

This one is Mocha, Marshmallow, and Peppermint and it’s absolutely amazing. I opted to get it a little extra sweet, because I have a problem with my sweet tooth. It was exceptionally smooth, I could scarcely tell I was drinking an espresso beverage at all. The bitterness was completely nonexistent.

My favorite part about the holidays, if you may recall from one of our earlier posts, is peppermint. I love peppermint and what it does for my coffee. Coffee, as we all know, has an earthy flavor that is fairly bitter and grounding. I love how peppermint is able to add some coolness and subtle sweetness. I always knew I liked peppermint, what I didn’t know was how much I love marshmallow.

Marshmallow being in this particular drink is amazing. It attaches to the espresso and tempers it. Makes it soft and decadent. The richness of the chocolate was magnified and it was made sweeter, somehow. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend this to you if you’re into Hot Cocoa or even Chocolate Milk. This is another one for those who don’t appreciate the bitterness of coffee.

If you guys aren’t local, and there’s a big chance of that, this one is a good one to order custom from your favorite local place. Your experience may vary slightly, but this is one that I feel will translate well from other Cafe`s.

I’ve been really utilizing our Christmas tree the last couple of days, mostly because we just managed to get our first tree and partly because I’m just really feeling the aesthetic. I also want to give a huge hello to our new readers! I hope you guys stick around! I’m happy to announce that I have some big plans for us here that I hope you like!

Come back tomorrow for our last day of Christmas post!

Early Christmas Gift with Allure December 2018 x Nikkie Tutorials

Hey guys! I know this one is going up a touch later than I usually post. I’m not going to lie, I crashed hard last night. We had a dinner party with our close friends, so I had scarce time to prep today’s post! Today is going to be slow day, kind of revisiting beauty boxes. On that note, I did get my December Allure Box, which I was so excited for. In case you may be out of the loop with Allure, they did a Collab with NikkieTutorials, a huge beautuber. Needless to say, I was excited

If you click that link, it’ll take you to her December 2018 video where she discusses this particular box! She’s currently doing her own blogmas sort of event on her channel that I highly recommend if you’re into festive Beauty content. And guys, she goes all out.

Nikkie is the girl that turned me on to Ofra highlights, so I was hoping I would be getting one this month. Seriously, I just knew I wanted more Ofra. So I got the email sometime last week that my box had shipped. Excited, I kept checking the tracking history until the big day!

Isn’t that beautiful? In this box, I got a tiny The Nubian palette from Juvia’s Place, Nyx Lip Lingerie, Ren Clean overnight moisturizer, a single Neutrogena makeup remover, LaSplash Architect liner, and the Ofra All the Highlight highlighter.  On first glance, I was pleased to see that all of the items in this month’s box are cohesive.  I knew that my girl Nikkie would take care of us.

The Nubian Palette has loads of warm neutrals that I was so excited to play with. Juvia’s Place has really affordable products at high quality that I had previously only heard tell of.  You can find Juvia’s Place Palettes at Ulta at around 20 dollars, give or take a couple dollars. Or click the image below for more information about this particular product

I think with the appropriate face products you could make a passable holiday face with these items- which is exactly what I did end up doing. Though, since I am just getting really started with cosmetics, it’s not exactly what I wanted it to be. But, I do think I did a decent job!

The Nyx Liquid Lip looked a little warmer in the tube, but on application it cooled significantly to a subdued brown. I thought that color wasn’t particularly holiday approved, so I tapped on some KVD Everlasting Glimmer Veil in Gold Skool to liven it up just a little.

Before looking closely at the eyes, I thought that the liner was better. That is purely a user error. I did find that the liner performed well and was somewhat easy to work with. I’m still getting my bearings with liquid liner, I’m sure I’ll get there eventually! One thing I will say is that I was pretty proud of the way these lashes came out. I tried full-strip lashes for the first time since I failed with the magnetic ones. These are the Ardell Studio Effects custom lashes, these things definitely have a learning curve and I’m still not sure how to get the glue off of them afterward.

The last thing I’ll bring up is the highlighter. Wow. It’s definitely something. My gripe with it is that the deepest copper tone is almost too pigmented and didn’t look right on my skin tone. I had to go over it with the remaining foundation on my beauty blender and then put on a little concealer before it chilled out. Even then there was still some obvious highlight showing through. I think my mistake was that I did mix all of the colors for my highlight and it’s a mistake I won’t be making again. I’ll definitely be trying this again to get a better feel for it.

I know today’s post is a little lacking in the Christmas Spirit, aside from the cameo appearance of our first Christmas tree in the photo of my loot. I do hope you guys are having a great Holiday break and that you get everything on your wish list. I’m still crossing my fingers for that Tatcha Primer on my end!

On that note, I’ll leave you guys until tomorrow where we get one day closer to Christmas!

On the 4th day of Christmas Starbucks gave to me (roundup!)

Who doesn’t love seasonal treats that only come out once a year? Everyone has their favorite Christmas Guilty (or, not so guilty) pleasures. Mine, as well as a host of others, love Starbuck’s seasonal offering. As displayed by my Halloween Coffee post, I love Holiday drinks! So of course, I took myself to Starbucks to try each of their seasonal brews!

Caramel Brulee

This is my number one pick from the current line up over at Starbucks. I love sweet things, and by that logic, I love caramel. Which definitely accurate. This drink is a great substitute if you’re tired of the same old peppermint. I never thought I’d be tired of the peppermint mochas, despite loving them so so so much.

This drink has a nice smooth finish, the majority of the flavor is caramel but that tapers off into a mellow espresso flavor. It’s a delicious winter drink that I can’t recommend enough if you fit these two requirements:

  1. You love any and all things Starbucks
  2. You’re like me, and you love sweets

This would be a great drink to sip as you hang out with the girls, or a relaxing night in by the fire with your partner!

Toasted White Chocolate Mocha

This one, I didn’t manage to grab a picture of. But as you’d imagine, that’s far from a travesty being that so many of the drinks look the same and taste so different. This one, to me, was not really -good- different. I generally don’t enjoy fruity flavors in my coffee, I’m cream all the way. This latte has a dusting of cranberry sugar on top, and the mingling flavors of caramel and mocha. Strangely, this one is actually too sweet for me and the surplus of sugar comes across bitter somehow.

If you’re really, and I do mean really into sweet coffees and enjoy a touch of fruitiness in your coffees for the holidays, this might be for you. And I think I’m going to let you guys have this one.

Gingerbread Latte

One of the ones I was excited to try this year was the Gingerbread latte, despite not being too huge on gingerbread. I did try this as a frappe a while back, which you can see below. I made the mistake of thinking that I liked Gingerbread a lot. Oh boy was I was wrong. It was too much. During a raining evening after work, I decided to give with the hot variant a try for this post!

Really feeling festive here lately! It’s not quite time yet, but why not break out the #gingerbread ? . . #coffeelover #coffeelife #coffeeholic #caffeine #coffeebreak #instacoffee #coffeelovers #coffeeaddict #coffeelove #coffeeoftheday #coffeetime #coffeecup #coffee #morning #yummy #drink #starbucks #gingerbreadfrappe

While this isn’t my usual thing, it’s not bad at all. Each sip has a nice spice to it that is brought down by the somewhat harsh espresso. I’m not sure that I’ll be getting this one again, because I really don’t care for ginger. It’s pretty true to what it’s based off it. I think it’s a loving homage to a traditional Christmas treat. It’s not my favorite thing on this list, but it’s also not my least favorite. It’s squarely in the middle. If you guys want to enjoy a Gingerbread cookie without the hassel of… y’know, eating it, this is for you! I will add really quick, that I did really like the frappe. I would not recommend pairing it like I did, unless you love ginger.

Juniper Latte

It’s beginning to taste a lot like Christmas! I was finally able to drag myself over to @Starbucks to try the #juniperlatte that I’ve been so curious about! Look for it in one of the upcoming posts for the #12daysofchristmas . . #coffeelover #coffeelife #coffeeholic #caffeine #coffeebreak #instacoffee #coffeelovers #coffeeaddict #coffeelove #coffeeoftheday #coffeetime #coffeecup #coffee #morning #yummy #drink #holidaycoffee

I know this post is a little late to the party with the Juniper Latte, but guys, life. That’s all I have to say. Times is hard, in the immortal words of Ms. Lovett.

Anyway, I did make it in to taste this unique brainchild. Of course, I sniffed it first to see what the smell was like. It smelled almost savory, which is not a thing I associate with my coffee. The overall flavor is woodsy. It’s sprinkled with sage, so it has a bit of an herbal taste as well. I made the mistake of taking a large swallow, thinking it was coke, and holy. crap. Immediate regret. It has a sharp, earthy aftertaste and not even the good bite of espresso. My question to Starbucks is this: why. Why would you market this? Come on. I guess I understand, it’s a unique idea. “Hey, let’s make a coffee that tastes like a tree,” because of course, we have to try it.

I’m a little rusty on my coffee reviewing skills, and guys, I took a sip and that aftertaste hits hard. I don’t think I’ll be getting this again. Literally, all I can say now that I couldn’t say before is “I drank tree flavored coffee”. And is that a bragging right I really want to have?

I was really hoping to wrap this post up on a positive note. I was hoping it was going to have more a piney, vaguely evergreen vibe. How wrong I was. If you guys took one for the team, what were your thoughts? Will you be buying it again?

With that trainwreck, we wrap up another day of our countdown! We still have more on the schedule, so be sure to check back tomorrow! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to find some coffee to hold me over til tomorrow!

I’m dreaming of the perfect Christmas

Hey guys! We’re so close to the big day and I’m getting more and more excited. This year is a big one for us! It’s not for any major reason, or anything. We just got our first tree. The fire is going heartily, the tree is up, the dog is down by my feet and I’m feeling festive. I figured now is as good a time as any to start thinking about my perfect dream Christmas.

Yesterday was Secret Santa was work, I kind of went a little all out and got lots of presents for my friends and the trainers. With those memories of trying- and failing- to wrap artfully presented gifts for under the tree it really got me thinking.

My dream Christmas would start out waking up around 8:00-ish, and walking out to the living room to be greeted by a crackling fire. This would be a fire hazard to keep going all night, so someone would have to get up early.  The tree would be lit up cheerily, and the presents would overflow with cohesive colors and lots of ribbons and bows! The stocking would be hung up above the fireplace with gifts for myself, my darling and all of my furry children (not that the later would appreciate it).

In complete opposition to my childhood, we would get straight to opening up gifts. Food can wait, presents must happen right off the bat in this dream-world. My darling would open his, and find exactly what he’s been wanting but has been unable to buy, and so would I. I don’t know what everyone else wants, but their favorite things would be in the stockings.

After presents, we would get to part two of our Christmas morning and fix up some peppermint hot cocoa, with some sugar cookies. I can feel the disapproval, guys. But, it’s the breakfast of champions. Prove me wrong. We would hang out on the couch and peruse the movies on Hulu, and eventually settle on some laughable cartoon movie. From the couch, we can see freshly fallen snow through our windows. Rather uncharacteristic for the South, but I certainly wouldn’t be complaining!

After the cocoa is gone, we’d get on prepping some fresh french toast. Mine would be topped with lots of whipped cream. Like, pile on the whipped cream. If I’m feeling more sweetness, I’d probably put some caramel on there too, why not!

The rest of the day would be spectacularly lazy. We stay home and enjoy each other’s company. I’d most likely spend my day playing with whatever gifts I got from Santa. We would relax into the night, and maintain the steady crackling of the fire. Most likely sipping coffee, because… it should go with out saying. Literally can’t have a holiday without having coffee. It’s not acceptable.

I know my dream Christmas is probably unremarkable. Despite the drive to constantly go and create things, I do have simple taste in the end. If these daydreams tickled your fancy or you want to share your own dream Christmas, share it in the comments down below!

Christmas Tag: Sweater Weather!

Hey there guys! We’re cresting another day of Blogmas! (Sorry to switch up the names on you!) For today’s adventure, I found this adorable Christmas related tag! Honestly, I encourage you guys to do this one too and share it with us in the comments below! I found this over at Louise Rose’s blog, you can check out her responses hereI did change a few things about this, since they pertained to Thanksgiving and Fall, to be more Winter inclined.

1. Favourite candle scent?

You guys may remember from Yesterday’s post that I’m totally obsessed with vanilla scents and associate it with pretty much every good thing that’s ever happened to me. I really like the French Vanilla from Yankee Candle and Mainstays has this delicious smelling Hazelnut candle that smells like coffee. So, my favorite is definitely one of those two!

2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?
Do I have to choose? I love all of these. You guys know that for me, Coffee is literally all the time. I do really enjoy tea on ocassion and cocoa is fantastic during this time of year, especially.

3. What’s the best fall memory you have?
This is the first difficult questi9on for me to answer. I guess if I had to choose, it would be when I was child. My mother dressed me as  ghost for Halloween and the entire house smelled like vanilla. I remember the coolness on the air and the promise of candy. As children we really tend to take those mundane moments for granted.

4. Which make up trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged eye liner?

Oh goodness. Another toughie. I really love a dark red lip. A lot. But wings also look really great. I think if I could master wings, those would be my pick. But I think I’m going to have to give it to the lips this time.

5. Best fragrance for fall?
I really like warm spiced scents for the fall and for the winter my favorite scents go more towards sweet and warm… like vanilla. I did recently find a wonderful Hot Cocoa body spray over Black Friday that I love for this season!

6. Favorite Christmas food?
Probably desert! I don’t know if I can really pick one. Maybe my all-time favorite dessert in the world; cheesecake!

7. What is winter weather like where you live?
Fickle, to say the least. This morning it was in the 30s and tonight it’s closer to 70. This is why I get sick, guys! I guess that’s what I signed up for staying in the south. It’s really for the best, because I have no idea what to do with snow.

8. Most worn sweater?
I don’t really have too many sweaters that I default to, other than light cardigans. My usual over-clothes-heating-solution is ordinarily one of my two black jackets. One of which I’ve had for 2 years and has seen better days, and the other a newer acquisition from JCPenny.

9. Must-have nail polish this winter?
I favor lots of Gold and metallic colors for the winter. Especially lighter ones with Holo flecks. Gold, Silver and Bronze are somehow perfect for the cooler seasons!

10. Football games or jumping in leaf piles?
I’ll totally jump in the remaining leaf piles!

11. Skinny jeans or leggings?
Leggings! Because I feel like skinny jeans can have a tendency to accentuate things I may not want them to. Also leggings can sub for pants when you want to wear a skirt!

12. Combat boots or uggs?
Combat boots! BecauseUggs aren’t really my style.

13. Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?
In my opinion… not really. I generally despise chai or spiced flavors in my drinks or anything. I think the only time I like pumpkin spice is in pumpkin pie.

14. Favourite Winter TV show?
I don’t really watch too much TV. I generally just watch Youtube videos or Hulu. Most of what I watch is true crime or beauty oriented. Sometimes I get sucked into the latest Gossip in the Beauty community.

15. What song really gets you into the Winter spirit?
If I had to pick just one, you know it has to be All I want for Christmas is you! That’s an absolutely must for this season!

Thank you again to Louise, for giving me this idea! Somehow these Christmas related posts are more difficult than I had anticipated!

Please do tweet me or comment below to let me know if/when you complete this tag post. I’m looking forward to reading your answers!

Keep an eye out for tomorrow’s post guys! We’re getting closer and closer to the big day! 🙂

Three of the Best Things About The Holiday Season

Hey there, guys! Let’s get today’s Blogmas rolling! Yesterday I talked about recapturing the Holiday Spirit, this one is for those of you who’s Holiday Cheer never left! I really don’t want to give the impression that I hate the holidays. To the contrary, although some Christmas songs tend to grate on my nerves. Since I grew up, I had to rediscover my love for the holiday season.

The best thing about trying to rekindle that spark in myself is finding new things to love about this most festive time of year!

Family (blood, and not)

Like I went into a little in the last post, I was raised with a large extended family that loved the holidays. Every holiday was a huge event where family from all over would congregate in my hometown. Since I left, I haven’t celebrated but once. And the one time that I did, didn’t really leave a good taste in my mouth. I opted to not celebrate again and my Cheer up and left.

This year is different. I did find a new job, partner, friends… Even the coworkers start to feel like family when you’re with them so much. I love the sense of togetherness that this season affords us. Really, I would even be happy without the promise of presents and food, though of course, those are perks. I just love where we are for the most part.

I’m discovering that one of the best parts about this season is celebrating, not with exclusively the family you were born with but opening your heart to the family that you have the potential to meet. Family has the potential to be everywhere around you, you just need to look around and be open to forming those connections. Righ now, I’m just at a very grateful (albeit semi-stressful) place. And, in case anyone is wondering if I consider them family; Absolutely.

The Five Senses

Sight

I did briefly go into this yesterday, as well, but the sights are stunning. Depending where you are, you may have snow (lucky) or you may have the remnants of fall shaking themselves free from the sparse branches. Either way, it’s sure to be made stunning by those unsung heroes who decorate and really channel that Christmas feeling. I know in particular, my neighbors go a little crazy with the decorations. It’s nearly impossible to be upset while looking at Christmas lights and decorations. I always found myself begrudgingly enjoying the gorgeous colors, even when I was adamant about not celebrating.

Sound

This is an easy one; the music. I know every word to so many songs even if I haven’t listened to it in years. There’s something so timeless about Christmas music. Not only that, have you ever tried to not sing along with All I Want For Christmas is You? I fail that challenge every time. The other one that always gets me is Last Christmas. I mean, I absolutely can’t not belt out his heartbreak. Some of my other absolute favorites are down below!

  1. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home); I found the one on again while watching an ABC Family Christmas movie years ago and I made a note to memorize the lyrics so I could find it again. I LOVE this one so much.
  2. All I want for Christmas; This one brought to us by Vince Vance and the Valiants was always so hard for me to find before I memorized the name of the band!
  3. Mary’s Boy Child; I’m not particularly religious, nor have I ever been, really, but I have always loved this song. It has a tropical, islandic feeling that’s like summer in the middle of the harsh winter. I loved this song for so many years! It has a heck of a hook.

Taste

This one is also a rehash of the last post in a way. I love some of the tastes of the season, namely peppermint! I also love the inventive flavors of coffee and cocoa that come out. When we were shopping last week we found some amazing flavors of cocoa in a set. We have plans to go back and grab them to enjoy for our Second Christmas together! I’m legit pretty excited, especially for the caramel flavors.

I’ve also come across some pretty amazing Christmas coffees too, like the more fall oriented one from Fountain City! Check out the local places to you to see what kind of unique drinks you can find before they’re gone!

Tactile

What does Christmas feel like? Christmas feels like warmth, and being wrapped in soft fluffy fabric. The entire affair, despite being in the dead of winter feels very warm to me. That feeling of warmth and love is something I’ve found myself yearning for over the year.

Scent

One of my favorite things about his season, hands down. Which isn’t remarkable, as that’s what this whole post is about. I love the scents I associate with the holiday. I primarily associate the scent of evergreen with vanilla and the smell of wood from the fireplace. The vanilla in my memories is sometimes interrupted by the smell of cocoa or coffee that became more prevalent as I got older. But vanilla is a smell I associate with almost every precious memory.

Tradition

Another thing I love about this season is that despite the evident prevalence of tradition that permeates time, is that none of it is set in stone. The holidays have the capacity to mean so many different things to so many different people. To some, it can mean what it used to mean to me, large parties with the extended family and making long road trips. Or it can fall more in line with what it means to me recently, solitude with my future husband and enjoying this new family I’ve found.

This is the year that we’re trying to start out own traditions together. We’re getting our first tree, figuring out the staple foods and festivities and generally just figuring out what it means to us. Do we want to celebrate with friends? Without? Do we want to partake of cliche` ideas? Gingerbread houses? Stereotypical color coordination? Stockings?

In short- heck yeah. The beautiful thing is that no matter what you choose one year, you’re free to change your mind next time. The tradtions you build are yours to find comfort in as you please and there’s something so beautiful about that to me.

This post actually went on a little bit longer than I thought it would to be honest. I guess I’m relieved to know that I was able to find some love for a holiday that ceased to move me years ago. I’m finding the ability to enjoy the nostalgia and the closeness with those around me extremely cathartic. I’m looking forward to making new memories about these times, this year and the in the years to come.

What are you guys looking forward to in the coming holiday?

Lacking the Holiday Spirit? Try these three small things to capture it again!

Hey guys, and welcome to day 9 on our countdown! You guys may notice a change in format going forward- I realized that I did the countdown thing for Halloween and after some thought, countdowns are boring. That’s the absolute last thing I want to be, which I think that’s something we may have in common. I’ve been trying to think of what kind of post to write for today, and it hit me that I could share some ideas for those of you who are in my boat and trying to fall in love with the season again.

The holidays when I was growing up, meant something so much more different to me. It was a time of childhood wonder and awe, waiting up for Santa, waking up to see presents that weren’t there before. We also had these huge parties where relatives from all over the South would meet and bring dishes and desserts. My family home was always spectacularly decorated and had this fantastic tree that was surrounded by presents of all sizes and colors for the children.

Sadly, as it goes, we all grow up. As I grew, my childhood wonder became jaded and cynical and somewhere along the way the wonder was lost. Santa who? Recently, I find that I’m trying to recapture my previous fervent love of the holidays, so here’s the few ideas that have worked for me!

1. Find a Mission

This one may not apply to everyone in the way it does to me. I’ll be honest, before having this blog… I didn’t care about the holidays. The child I used to be was somewhere in the annals of my past gathering dust. But, since having this site and deciding on a steady post schedule and the occasional holiday ‘event’, I find that I care more.

I want to experience the holidays in a  new way and share them with you guys! While it isn’t possible for me to do it exactly in the ways that I want right now, I’m using our first holidays together to get ideas for next time or the time after that. Life, and evidently the holidays is a learning process.

You may not have a website that you’re compelled to keep posting on, but maybe the idea of having a story to share will be motivation enough to at least give a hint of that spark back.

     Try

  • Bullet Journaling
    • Make holiday themed cover pages to perk yourself up
    • Create weekly or monthly themes!
    • This can be an extremely creative outlet if you want it to be!
  • Scrapbooking
    • Invest in a fujiffilm Instax and snap pictures to hold for years to come
    • Decorate the pages in bright, festive colors
  • Go the virtual alley
    • use Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter or Instagram to share your holiday story or get inspiration
    • Pinterest can practically drown you in holiday inspo when you’re in need!

2.Revisit Tradition

Holidays have things associated with them and or good reason. Visiting some of the tried-and-true symbols of the season can rekindle that spark! One thing that perks me up every year is peppermint everything. It’s such a refreshing and reinvigorating flavor that gives me life. I look forward to Peppermint Mocha every year.

One other thing I’m not too big on but that I have to try every year, is Gingerbread. Either take the time to fail at building a house or just get straight to the end and eat the poor homeless thing. I don’t like gingerbread, but it’s like Cranberry Sauce at Thanksgiving. I have to have some.

Despite not tasting too great, these little guys make great treats!

Aside from those, I love Hot Cocoa to take me back. Cocoa is a thing that I’ve always had a softspot for. Just sprinkle in some marshmallows, festive sugar sprinkles and maybe some whipped cream and you have the perfect nostalgic treat.

3. Location, location, location

It’s no secret that atmosphere is everything- our environment can influence our entire outlook and even our mental health. It makes sense that our decor and bring the cheer. Try to surround yourself with things that remind you of the holidays. Last year I set to work making stockings for my fiance and our animals (yeah, I’m that person) and it really made me perk up. Something about doing something productive to prepare for Christmas jump-starting my festive spirit.

Try to drive around and check out Christmas decorations, or attend a light event at a botanical garden. Just seeing beautiful things can sometimes elicit those feelings!

We hope to attend Fantasy in Lights at Callaway Gardens, to share with everyone here!

Seeing beautiful and cheerful things can kind of force us to feel the things we remember from long ago- I mean, just looking at the lights up above makes me happy. I’m getting so excited to go check it out myself!

I hope you found these ideas at least a little bit helpful, if you’re like me and lost touch with your inner-child. If these ideas work for you, or you’ve found other ones that worked for you, share those below!

10 Must Have Holiday Sweaters

We’re getting closer to the big day one day at a time! We’re moving on into day 3, which is all about being cozy! I’ve put together a list of 10 of the cutest holiday sweaters I could find! If you particularly like any of these, just click the picture to go to the site!

Cute Christmas light sweater from Macy's!

Karen Scott Embroidered Sweater

I found this adorable pull over that actually reminded me of one of my latest sticker designs for the holidays! It’s modest and while being overtly Christmassy, it’s not excessive. At the time of writing, this is on sale for $16.99. The original price is about $50. I generally go for longer sweaters, but this one spoke to me.

Dress Lily Skew Neck Christmas Sweater

This one is gorgeous! I’m a sucker for long sweaters that can double as sweater dresses. I especially love large necks. They feel so… 90s? There’s just a youthful feeling about wearing a sweater with an oversized neck. The little Santas and the hem of this glorious entry make it perfect to pair with cozy tights. You would be the most cozy, and stylish, one in attendance at any party or cafe! Currently, the price is $19.98, with the original being $36.57.

Low-key Alpaca Sweater

What’s better than petting an alpaca? Wearing an Alpaca… of course? I adore alpacas! And I’m crazy about this sweater. It’s a great non-offensive color scheme for a relaxed Christmas sweater. I can only how warm this is by looking at this. I don’t have too much to say about this other than I want it! Right now it’s available for $42.00 with a base price of $52.

Reindeer Sweater!

This is a super cute sweater from Loft! It’s got a little of a heftier pricetag than some of the other entries in this post! It’s a whopping $54.99, but if you use the code MERRY you’ll gegt 50% off and freeshipping. It’s a pretty steep discount, so if this is up your alley grab one for your self!

         Llama Scarf Sweater!

This is one of my favorite ones on this list! I love animals and the whole “ugly sweater” thing. Some of them are just super cute, like this one and the next one! This particular one is $39.99 over at Stein Mart!

The only thing I would change about this one, would be to make the llama an alpaca which are objectively cuter, but that’s just me!

Not So Ugly

My search for sweaters took me to Etsy today, where I found this self proclaimed ugly sweater. I don’t know guys, throw on some tights and you have an outfit. It’s just so lively, and I high-key want it myself! This baby is on sale for $69.95, so it’s one of the priciest on this list. At the very least, this one may win you a contest for work! I love the little bit of tinsel around the collar and cuffs. Really, I’m pretty sure that’s why this one is on the list!

Get Lit Sweater!

This one is one I really like- maybe even more than the previous one. This one is the most expensive on this roundup at a whopping $89.95 base and $52.95 right now. Lately I’ve noticed that the more something lights up, or shines, the more I like it. I attended a Holiday party and was dying of jealousy at the people who were WEARING Christmas lights. I know it’s probably not a new thing in the Ugly Sweater festivities, but I’m easily impressed. If this one wasn’t so pricey, I think I’d definitely have to jump on it.

Off-Shoulder Tunic

Guys… just look at this one. I saw this on my search and knew it needed to be on this list. I love everything about this sweater. Te buttons, the pattern, the length. Pair it with some leggings and booties, and you’re golden. I think this is the most likely one that I would buy, because I kind of need it. It looks so toasty and cute. You could even style it with a warm headband and a white scarf. It’s normally $32.59, but right now is on sale for $17.21.

Snow Deer

We’re almost to the end of the list! I haven’t been going in any particular order with these! This one is also marketed as an ‘ugly’ sweater. This is definitely another one that I disagree with- it’s adorable. Throw on a blue scarf and some jeans, and you’re good to go. This run runs at $36.99, and is not currently on sale. I really like the detailing on this one- the spots on the deer, the snow… it’s just an altogether charming sweater!

Shine Bright Like a Reindeer

This is the last  entry, and it does come from the same source as the previous. I wasn’t going to use duplicate retailers, but I’m kind of in love with anything shiny and that does include sequins. I’m kinda of about it. This one isn’t quite long enough to pass as a sweater dress. But, I guess that’s okay with how adorable it is!  This one will set you back $33.99, if this one tickles your fancy.

With that, we wrap up another day of our festivities! If any of those sweaters pique your interest, just click the image to go to the store page! Be on the lookout at the Redbubble for today’s sticker that will be going up this evening!

In case you missed them!

My Top 11 Products of 2018!

Welcome to day 2 of our 12 days of Christmas here at Java and Jeans! Yesterday we explored my personal wishlist and invited you to share your own, today we’re going to break down my top products for the past year!

2018 was the year I started to explore the wonderful (and confusing) world of cosmetics in earnest and I picked up a few proucts from older releases to holiday sets! Let’s get to it!

11.  Tarteist Pro Remix

This was a product I was so on the hype train for. Literally. I tried to preorder it but was met with an out of stock notification. Dejected,  had to wait. On my first experiment with this palette I found that the red shadow, ‘grafitti’ didn’t seem to have the lasting power of the green ‘color explosion’ I paired it with for a holiday look.

That minor disappointment aside, the other shades perform admirably and blend nicely. There’s lovely pigment and the formula, in Tarte fashion, is phenomenal.

10. Lights Camera Lashes Mascara

I can’t mention Tarte without bringing up my new holy grail mascara. Lights Camera lashes gives definition and curl that is unparalleled by any product I’ve tried previously. On top of that praise, the packaging is adorable. I highly recommend this mascara if you can spare the cost!

9.  ABH Norvina Palette

At first, I wasn’t sure which of the ABH palettes I should put on this list, and after a recent day-wear of Norvina its position on this list was cemented. I love the buttery formula of these shadows and they build so well. I was able to build wild child, the bright shimmery pink, to a very nice level. It’s a nicely versatile palette that I recommend for those who like shimmer and champagne hues!

8. ABH Dream Glow Kit

This glow kit was on my list for such a long time. I wanted it so bad because of the ethereal shimmers and I finally got my hands on it for black friday. I couldn’t believe my luck that the one glow kit from  ABH that was dying for was half off. On playing with it, I found it right up my alley. I love colored highlights and while I usually prefer warmer champagne toned glow, this kit is perfect for cool toned looks and adding some ice for the winter.

7. Ciate` Glitterflips

These. are. amazing. I first heard of these on Tati’s channel. I think during a collab with James Charles or something… maybe Thomas Halbert? Anyway, I thought the price point was excessive but for the quality of product you get, I think it’s worth it! On one swipe you have opaque color that initially dries down almost matte. If you press your lips together while it’s still tacky, this beautiful, fine glitter appears. Their colors are gorgeous too!

6. ABH Sultry Palette

I was on the fence with adding this one, but with as much a I obsessed over this bridal looking palette, I figured it deserved a spot. This palette is lowkey, except for ‘Bloom”. I see this as less of an everyday wear, and more of a wedding or date palette. You can make gorgeous looks with or without the pop of color and go as glam as you’d like.

5. Urban Decay Electric Pressed Pigment Palette

This is definitely not for the faint of heart. Urban decay delivered 10 stunning pressed pigments that deliver vibrant, long-lasting colors and a multitude of possibilities. Admittedly, I’m a little late on the train with this one since it’s on the way out. I may be more timely next year! If you like super bright neon looks, definitely look into this palette. Right now, at the time of writing, it’s on sale on Urban Decay’s website for $15.

4. Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

This is one of the end-all-be-alls for a reason. It’s phenomenal. After finding it, I use this almost everyday and every time I apply my makeup. I try other ones, but just fall flat of All Nighter’s staying power. I love the subtle scent and the matte finish. This one is worth a try if you want more out of your setting spray!

3. Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer

I tried Tarte’s shapetape and I think I got a shade too light for me, because it makes me look frantic when I use it under my eyes. I opted to try a new concealer rather than buy another full Shapetape. Naked Skin was the one that caught my eye. The color is perfect for evening out my under eyes and makes me look alert as well as adds some warmth. I like to use the two in conjunction, but Naked Skin is my favorite!

2. Too Faced Born this way Foundation

I spent years wearing Ivory foundation without giving a thought to the fact that it was far too yellow for my skin and that it aged me significantly. Finally, I went to Ulta, disheartened after realizing the shade was so wrong. I was thrilled to shade matched with the shade “Snow”.

Wow. The difference it made. It adds a beautiful, natural finish to my skin that looks gorgeous. It doesn’t feel heavy or confining over my primer. All around my favorite foundation!

1.  Eyelure lashes in #005

I was at a loss for what to put at the number one spot, when it finally hit me. My favorite falsies. I always have a terrible time trying to apply strip lashes with the end results not working out. Until I found these gorgeous accent lashes.

I can actually get these to apply well, in about 15 minute. Which is a far cry from the half an hour spent on other methods and 3 days with the magnetic lashes.

We’ve made it through our top products of 2018! I know some of them were old news, but they were all new to me regardless. What were some of your favorite releases or finds of 2018? Comment your items below, or your experiences with anything in today’s post!

Check out day one if you missed it!

Let’s kick off the twelve days of Christmas with a Wishlist!

Hey guys! It’s starting to look and feel a lot like Christmas with enough sales to make your head spin! It’s that time of when we make lists full of hope for things we’ve wanted all year (afterall, we’ve been good right?). We also make lists of promises to ourselves, but this post isn’t about what we hope to change and maybe stick to, this is about what things have come out that I’m on the hunt for!

I have a few things I’m after from makeup to outfits, and video games! Let me know what things you’re hoping for in the comments below!

Cosmetics

  1. Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer

I can think of no other item to start off this segment of my Wishlist. I’ve been hearing so much about it from various youtubers and I’ve seen what it can do in comparisons against some wannabe dupes. I’m enamored. The amount of product you get in this one package makes the hefty price tag worth it. I mean aside from the advantages it appears to have over other balm primers, such as NYXs. I’m so curious that I can hardly stand it ad I can firmly say that Tatcha has earned a place on my wishlist!

        2. Too Faced Pretty Rich anything

It’s no secret that I really like Too Faced, and this new collection they’ve put out tickles my fancy. I love all that glitters, and this collection definitely has it. The glosses are gorgeous, the shadows are stunning and I love the highlighters. I’m feeling the adorable packaging, of course. There’s something so fun and edgy about this collection, that I really want to add to my stash!

   3. Dose of Colors Mickey Lip Gloss in Rockin It

I’ve heard nothing  but good about Dose of Colors liquid lips, and I’m curious to try it. Why not start with an iconic collab with Disney? This color looks like such a cute nude, that can go with just about anything and I love the versatility of it. I’ve heard that their formula is pretty great, so this year I aim to give to give them a shot!

  4. Clairsonic Mia Smart Beauty Device

This one is more of a tool than a cosmetic item, and I’ve been curious about this for a while. I’ve seen a few youtubers use it and it’s been on my wishlist for a while now. I think the idea is great for people like me who are a little lazier with their blending. I try, but I have a little difficulty getting the finish I want. Chances are this would save me money on beauty blenders! Thanks to Tati for making me realize that I want this!

Apparel

  1. Cuddle With Me Sweater Dress from Posh Peach

I’ve recently gotten really into sweater dresses! They’re so cute, stylish and versatile that I feel the need to begin a collection. The Posh Peach always has the cutest things and I’m magnetically pulled in when I get within a mile of their adorably welcoming shop! This particular dress just looks so cozy that it’s begging for a Starbucks cup of something warm!

    2. Lily Tulle Skirt from Francesca’s

I haven’t had the ocassion to break out the tulle recently, but I want it to be known that I LOVE tulle. It has such a girly, princessy feel that I absolutely adore! There’s something so youthful about it. This particular one is a little toned down in comparison to my current tulle skirt but that just makes it perfect to wear to work! I’m dying for some work appropriate tulle.

    3. Calvin Klein Faux Wool Trench Coat in Bellini (Belk)

I’ve always loved the look of trench coats and have admittedly impulse bought a few traditional looking ones. But what I’m really after is a trench coat that is toasty, soft and flares out… and is preferably not black like everything else in my closet. I think the perfect one would be a new color for me as far as outerwear goes: pink. This one is way too cute and I can totally see sporting it to work when I need a little pick me up!

    4. Plaid Circle Skirt (HM)

I love plaid, and especially on my skirts. This one has the feel of a school marm and I’m kind of living for it. The length is great for a modest work outfit, but you could also make it a little edgier too with some accessories. I really wasn’t planning on putting two skirts on here, but I fell in love the moment I saw this one!

 Miscellaneous

  1. Animal Crossing  on the Nintendo Switch

You guys may not know that aside from blogging about whatever it is I blog about, I also really enjoy playing video games! Animal Crossing on Nintendo’s newest system has been at the tip top of my list since the system was announced. The game was finally announced at a Nintendo Direct in in October, I believe and I’m so excited. It’s up for preorder on Gamestop’s website though no date for release has actually been determined as of yet. I highly recommend checking out this title! Especially if you’re into cheerful town simulations with charming anthromorphic characters stress-free gaming experience

2. RODE Compact On-Camera Mic

I’m trying to get myself ready to start producing youtube content periodically, and on the test runs I found my audio to be lacking. It’s not clear with just my camera, so I’m on the hunt for a microphone to start off with. I know that with me it’s not good to drop loads of money on a thing without knowing if I’m going to get a footing, so 60 bucks is a decent compromise. This is more of a practical thing right now rather than a plain ol’ want.

3. Starbucks Reusable Tumbler

When I saw this particular update in my Google Feed I was super interested- of course the big question is whether or not they’ll be available when I’m able to get one. The tumble would save me money in the end and get me and instagrammable tumbler to take to work with me! While $40 is a little high for what I want to pay for a cup, the end result would be so worth it!

4. TYSSEDAL Dressing Table Vanity from Ikea

The other thing I’m kind of hoping to have when I started producing videos, is a decent vanity. Right now it’s clear to me that I’m going to have to utilize other methods of storage for my veritable collection, so I’m not too concerned with storing all of my makeup in a single table. This one would go great in the space I have planned and coordinate well with the other thing I have picked out to accent my station.

That’s my wishlist for this wonderfully materialistic holiday! I’m not sure what (if any) of these items I’ll be able to attain, but I did keep my price points somewhat in the realm of reality. I have some big plans for the coming year where this blog is concerned and I hope you guys are there to see us into the new year! What sort of things are on your list of must haves this holiday season?

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post in this Christmas Countdown!
