Hometown Cravings; Zebras in Midtown?

Hometown Cravings; Zebras in Midtown?

Stop: Columbus, GA
Shop: Midtown Coffee House
Beverage: Zebra Mocha

Hey, guys! Happy Thursday and yet another awakening from yours truely accompanied by an attempt to keep this site alive in the midst of having NO time for anything ever for the moment! For today’s post, I visited Midtown Coffeehouse in my little town of Columbus! I do plan to branch out again once time permits- I can’t wait to be able to resume my initial post schedule. For now, I’m probably going to change my post schedule temporarily to Thursdays, and resume Monday posting once I have time to do so…

Plans aside! I was finally able to go see what they have as far as that new new, because sometimes I go in and they have something so unique on their blackboard, like the wedding cake latte from ages ago, that I can’t find the post for. This day they were still repping for the Lemonade, and while that was DELICIOUS I’m not using my day off for drinking something I’ve already tried. I hate being a pain for these lovely people who enable my addiction, because I love their work, but I asked for something new. I kind of ran over flavors I enjoy and what I’ve tried from there, all the while casting glances at the sweet couple chatting behind me debating on apologizing outright for taking (what I felt) was so much time.

In the end, the Zebra Mocha was pitched, a mixture of dark mocha and white. I’ve probably had something like it before, because it is mocha. But I haven’t had it from them specifically, I went with that. And after paying, I apologized for taking up so much to the couple behind me, turns out I didn’t need to worry because they were just as lost as I had been. I told them the lemonade was kicking and took a seat to wait.

Once it was brought out to me, I took the first sip. Anyone who goes without anything for any amount of time, and then gets what they’ve been deprived of, knows how sweet it is. The espresso was mild, as is their custom. It’s not overly earthy, like my Jamaican Blue Mountain, but has just a little bit of presence in the taste. The primary flavor is a tossup between the two mochas. I’m moved to say that the white mocha is slightly more prevalent. The darker trails behind and leaving a lovely richness on your tongue.

Onto the rating!

Taste;/5

Due to the somewhat noticeable taste of the espresso itself, I wouldn’t recommend this for those who loathe a bit of earthiness in their coffee. But if you can make it through a nice soft earthiness and like chocolate this is for you!

Hometown Cravings; That New New Cloud Mocha!

Hometown Cravings; That New New Cloud Mocha!

Hey guys, so this is weird. I logged in and saw that this one missed it’s schedule… I do have some new content for you, but I wanted to go ahead and get this out for your viewing pleasure.  Anyway, today’s post is on the New Mocha Cloud Macchiato at Starbucks. I do plan to bring you guys another new drink from Starbucks next week, the awaited Tie Dye Frapp. Baristas everywhere are quaking.

Let’s get right to it! The Mocha Cloud Macchiatto is so aptly named because it’s very mocha. From the taste, I suspect dark chocolate. There was so much of it that its bitterness actually rivalled the espresso. And that’s not something I say lightly, because this espresso has a heck of a bite. I do greatly prefer the Caramel Cloud Macchiatto, but that’s just personal preference because I like the sweeter things, and the more mild.

Once I stirred it a bit to disperse the mocha and the sweet froth on top, the mocha became less aggressive. Each sip made me appreciate the drink and feel refreshed. It’s an extremely rich drink, that I don’t recommend for those who do not enjoy the bite of espresso. But once it chilled out, I found myself really enjoying it.  Not my favorite by any means, but not my least favorite either.

Taste; /5

This one, I can’t rate higher than a 3.5, just because it’s not my thing. If you have similar overly-saccharine tastes to mine, you may also not be too enamored. If you’re a fan of the flavor of dark chocolate intermingled with bitter espresso, this may be your drink!

Hometown Cravings; Gotta Catch’em all!

Hometown Cravings; Gotta Catch’em all!

Hey guys, I know, I’m back to my old delay-in-posting behavior. I’m sorry- I’ll hopefully be able to make it up to you guys with some upcoming content. I did not, in fact, think of anything good for the Fourth and due to my joblessness I had no drive. But, I’m happy (kind of) to announce, that I’m once more a functioning member of society. I found a job… unfortunately an hour away, but hopefully it will put me in an area to gather content before I go in for my shift, which begins at 3 PM EST.

This post comes really late to the game, evidently, Starbucks has been doing a Pokemon Go Frappucino but its not really been on the menu. I had no idea it existed, but I did finally wake up and try it! Nothing about this drink screams Pokemon to me. You’d think it would… make sense? I might actually take it on myself to make a Pokemon Frappe that makes sense, I have a few ideas. I might try to bring back my experimental Homebrews stuff from its slumber.

Pokemon Frapp

Is it just me? Does that say Pokemon to you? What it is, is basically a Vanilly Frapp with Blackberries and Chia Seeds. You may remember the Chia seeds from the Witches’ Brew, at the time I thought they were Slimy yet satisfying and even now I kind of like their strange, foreign texture. It’s a really interesting surprise when you get a sip and a few seeds mingle in with the creamy consistency. This drink was pretty much exactly what I expected going in. Even though it’s a bright shade of purple, that’s the only sort of unique thing it has going for it.

That’s not to say it’s not good- it is. If you like berries and cream.  It’s made with a cream base, so cannot be considered coffee. If you have children or young family members who like pokemon and enjoy a super sweet treat now and again, I would recommend this. Realistically, it’s unremarkable and more dessert than an actual pick-me-up. As expected the flavors are complementary and taste pretty great together.

Let’s go ahead and move on to the rating, shall we?

Taste; /5

Because I can be considered a literal child where my tastes are concerned, this gets a 4.5. Half a cup was deducted just because of the pretty blah nature of the drink. For what it is, it’s delicious. A berry milkshake, essentially and I can’t really say anything too bad about it. It tasted good, it was cold, what more can I ask for?

Home Brews; French Vanilla Great Value (K-CUP)

Home Brews; French Vanilla Great Value (K-CUP)

ey guys, I’m so sorry for my unannounced hiatus. It’s not been a good time in the JNJ house. Coffee, and makeup have been my only escape from the defeatist summer I’m experiencing. Who knew being unemployed could worsen symptoms of depression? I have luckily managed to land a freelance thing, so I’ll hopefully be able to sustain a little bit of adventure. I have a friend over at Kalon Kosmetics, with whom I’m affiliated, that I plan to pay a visit to when funds permit! Let’s get to the blah festivities, and look at the French Vanilla K Cup from Walmart!

Hometown Cravings; Iron Bank’s Soggiest Jogger

Hometown Cravings; Iron Bank’s Soggiest Jogger

City; Columbus, GA
Stop; Iron Bank
Drink; Soggy Jogger

Hey guys, look at me being on time and such! In the midst of starting a side-site, doing makeup challenges and job hunting! Go me! For today’s post,  I tried something new for a change from Iron Bank, the Soggy Jogger. This particular one is in a similar vein to the Be Mine latte that I so love. It’s vanilla, hazelnut and cinnamon. Which makes it a little bit of a gamble for me.

It does taste quite similar to the Be Mine without the chocolate notes. The Hazelnut, which historically I have hated, is but a whisper underneath the dominant flavor of cinnamon. The overall taste of this coffee is smooth, and a little spiced. I didn’t pick up any vanilla flavor while sipping my way through it. Which, in retrospect bummed me out a little.

There is pretty much absolutely no espresso flavor to this one, much like the Be Mine, so it’s another one I feel safe recommending to someone who doesn’t like coffee. I do want to warn you that it is quite sweet. So, if you like the more bitter side of life and coffee, you may not like this. But then again, is that a surprise? I like sweet things, this is a thing we all know by this point.

If you don’t like cinnamon, I would also say to pass on this one. Because it is the main flavor that is on the surface with this one. It overpowers the vanilla. It overpowers the hazelnut (thankfully). The drink is fairly creamy though and really mingles with the cinnamon flavor that is fighting the good fight.

If you find your way to Columbus, I do heartily recommend a trip to Iron Bank Cofee on the corner of 12th and Broad for one of their delicious specialty lattes. In their first post, I did post a picture of the menu for you to peruse and tempt you to my neck of the woods.

Taste /5

Despite not being the Be Mine latte, I did quite enjoy this. I liked how the cream mingled and relaxed the cinnamon flavor, and masked any hint of hazelnut aside from the faintest whisper. Not quite something I would replace my Be Mine with, but still rather delicious.

Five Fashionable Years With The Posh Peach

Five Fashionable Years With The Posh Peach

Hey there guys! Over the weekend, the Posh Peach, my favorite local store here in Columbus, celebrated their Fifth anniversary here in town! I, of course, had to attend! They had the event beginning once they opened. They were going to hand out goodie bags to the first 25 to walk in. You know I was going to be among the first 25. Not only did I get a goodie bag, but I made friends!

I got there at 8:30, an hour and a half from opening, and there were already 7 people outside. They had been there since 4:30 at the earliest. Talk about dedication! I was almost going to show up at 9:30, and I’m glad I didn’t stick to my original plan because by 9:30, there were more than 25 people out there. They weren’t playing with that free stuff.

Now, I was planning to get some What’s New content today, but when I tell you those lines were loooong, they were long. The best I was able to do was snag my goodie bag, exchange contact info and snap some photos of some of the new things I saw. First off, I’m going to be narcissisitic for a moment and show the picture I had taken of me in front of the Fiesta themed backdrop, because it was the first thing I went to. Last year, I was too insecure to get my picture taken and I’m kind of thrilled that I was able to actually do it this year.

Now, moving on from that segue, my goodie bag, at first was completely useless to me. I had a scrunchie and some of those no tear hair ties, that look like those stretchy bracelets that used to go on keyrings, plus a 5 dollar Posh Peach gift card and evidently a pair of earrings, that I didn’t see at first. I traded both of the useless items for earrings and a bracelet from my newfound friends. Much better!

There was also the customary snacks, cookies and macarons. The cookies, I found honestly lackluster this year. They weren’t very sweet, like a cookie is supposed to be. But that’s absolutely no reflection on the Posh Peach, because I love them. I will say that the cookies were so cute. It’s a shame they didn’s taste as good as they looked.

There was also the cutest little mini pinata on the table.

Now I can’t really say too much about the new releases at the Posh Peach. Y’know, since I wasn’t able to do my What’s New content. So, I’ll leave a little gallery below!

Hometown Cravings; Forray into the Secret Menu with an Affogato

Hey there, guys! For today’s post I tried something new and a little more expensive than I was planning! My fiance has been trying to get me to try Affogato, but being so hopelessly hooked on a macchiato, I have yet to do it. What better place to ease myself in and dip my toes into that area than America’s sweetheart, Starbucks. I’m using this drink from the secret menu, if anyone wants to have their own experience with this drink!

I suddenly remembered that I’ve been advised to try Affogato style coffee, while I was sitting and leisurely sipping my Macchiato, and watching guilty pleasure videos. I figured, “why not” and got up to order it. “Why not” is because it’s a whopping 7 dollars for a grande, but me loving you guys just so much, I decided again, “Why not?” and swiped my card.

I’m going to give you a play by play. First sip, I hated it. When I say I hated it, it made me gag. What happens if I stir it? Which I’ve gathered isn’t what real coffee drinkers do, but I’m me and not them, so I’m going to stir it. I stirred it and moved the straw about midway up to get it away from the pure, unadulterated death at the bottom of the cup, which by this time has had time to settle while writing this. Why do people do this to themselves?

I’m hunting for the vanilla flavor that should be there and just getting sip, after cautious sip of pure espresso, which as it turns out, I don’t care for in it’s pure form. After stirring, it became a bit more pallatable. I wonder how this would be with legit ice cream, rather than whip?

Day five, I’m finally adjusting to the flavor and I feel like I’m moving fast… I’m sitting still. Maybe it’s because I’ve downed 2 shots of almost pure espresso and I’m finally left with mostly vanilla frappe and java chips. I really can’t say in good conscience that I will try this near-death experience again, just because it’s not really up my alley. I may try an authentic one, if I get a chance, but this has not been a pleasant experience for yours truly.

Honestly, once the espresso died down a little, I found myself enjoying it. It’s probably because I had gotten rid of the parts I didn’t like and was left with what I do. I don’t  know if that’s the drink’s credit, or mine.

If you’re brave, and relatively uninitiated, like me, give it a go and let me know what you think down below!

What’s New; Let’s Go Down to the Thicket

What’s New; Let’s Go Down to the Thicket

Hey guys! This last weekend didn’t go quite as I had planned, but it’s okay, because I still got some content for you! I had planned to attend an opening a couple hours away, but due to the continuing joblessness, we opted to stay close to home. I gathered a little content over the weekend, first up is the Lizard Thicket, where they graciously hosted me and allowed me to try on some of the newest ensembles in their inventory.

Unboxing; Possibly the Most Useless Allure Box May 2019

Hey guys! First off, Happy Veterans day and thanks to all of you who may be Veterans, for your service! Formalities aside, can I get right to the complaining? I got what is very possibly my last Allure box for a while and they ended it on such a regrettable note. Now, I want to say that this is bad for me personally and may not be all around a bad box.
