Hometown Cravings: Craving that Flower Power!

Hey there, guys! I’m coming at you with the newest of the new from Starbucks, the Tie-dye frappe! I don’t know enough about the fabled summer of love, other than hendrix and woodstock, so I’m going to pretty much jump right in.

This frappe, isn’t quite as aesthetic as I imagined. Really, it’s a little hectic lookin… Can I do better? Probably not. The predominant color is yellow in this particular drink. Which is way new to me, for Starbucks. I’ve seen them do green (I think), purple, pink and now yellow? I might be missing a couple.

Drinking this reminds me of bananas… but not like, banana-bananas. Those little banana candies you’d get from the coin machines…. RUNTS. I remember now! I used to love those things, and honestly, that’s the only banana I like. Which makes a lot of sense, because its flavor is not based off of our bananas. It’s based off of an early 1900’s banana called the Gros Michel, I’ll put a little excerpt below for that article if you’re curious and also link the full thing for further reading!

By the 1960s, the Gros Michel was effectively extinct, in terms of large scale growing and selling. Enter: the Cavendish, a banana cultivar resistant to the fungal plague. It’s the banana that we eat today.

Just a little entertaining fact for you guys! Should I include little facts and sources for you guys? That would be fun. Anyways, I digress! This drink tastes like straight Runts bananas. I sipped a lot in quick succession and both got brain freeze, and did not find any additional flavors. I’m kind of suspecting that the other colors we see in the drink above is for show. By the time I got it home, the other colors were dissolved. Marceline thinks the whipped cream is cute, though. What about you?

I will say that the banana flavor kind of chills out after a while, thankfully. Because I can only eat so many Runts before I’m tired of it. I don’t hate it- but I wish other flavors participated more. Based on the temporary colors of this Tie-dye, I expected that there would be more strawberry? But, boy was I proven wrong!

Taste;/5

I don’t know what to say about this one. The Tie-dye frappucine was one that was way different than I expected. I don’t know what I actually expected, but this wasn’t it. It wasn’t bad, per se, but not my favorite. I probably won’t be getting this one again, in contrast to the Unicorn Frappucino.

Hometown Cravings; Gotta Catch’em all!

Hometown Cravings; Gotta Catch’em all!

Hey guys, I know, I’m back to my old delay-in-posting behavior. I’m sorry- I’ll hopefully be able to make it up to you guys with some upcoming content. I did not, in fact, think of anything good for the Fourth and due to my joblessness I had no drive. But, I’m happy (kind of) to announce, that I’m once more a functioning member of society. I found a job… unfortunately an hour away, but hopefully it will put me in an area to gather content before I go in for my shift, which begins at 3 PM EST.

This post comes really late to the game, evidently, Starbucks has been doing a Pokemon Go Frappucino but its not really been on the menu. I had no idea it existed, but I did finally wake up and try it! Nothing about this drink screams Pokemon to me. You’d think it would… make sense? I might actually take it on myself to make a Pokemon Frappe that makes sense, I have a few ideas. I might try to bring back my experimental Homebrews stuff from its slumber.

Pokemon Frapp

Is it just me? Does that say Pokemon to you? What it is, is basically a Vanilly Frapp with Blackberries and Chia Seeds. You may remember the Chia seeds from the Witches’ Brew, at the time I thought they were Slimy yet satisfying and even now I kind of like their strange, foreign texture. It’s a really interesting surprise when you get a sip and a few seeds mingle in with the creamy consistency. This drink was pretty much exactly what I expected going in. Even though it’s a bright shade of purple, that’s the only sort of unique thing it has going for it.

That’s not to say it’s not good- it is. If you like berries and cream.  It’s made with a cream base, so cannot be considered coffee. If you have children or young family members who like pokemon and enjoy a super sweet treat now and again, I would recommend this. Realistically, it’s unremarkable and more dessert than an actual pick-me-up. As expected the flavors are complementary and taste pretty great together.

Let’s go ahead and move on to the rating, shall we?

Taste; /5

Because I can be considered a literal child where my tastes are concerned, this gets a 4.5. Half a cup was deducted just because of the pretty blah nature of the drink. For what it is, it’s delicious. A berry milkshake, essentially and I can’t really say anything too bad about it. It tasted good, it was cold, what more can I ask for?

Drinks Around the World (Market)

We ended up with 7  drinks, and 3 snacks there were some definite hits and misses, as there always are when you’re trying a bulk of things. So I don’t have to avoid spoilers anymore let’s get to it! Oh, if you’re curious about any drinks below, you can find them on Rocket Fizz’s site linked above!

O’Charley’s and the New Spin on an Old Classic

Cotton Candy Fizz Before Picture
Before the fun started- I really wanted to eat it

Today, my fiance’ and I decided to stop by O’Charley’s for a nice lunch, and while perusing the menu, we noticed something. There was a new drink, something called Cotton Candy Fizz. Interested, I immediately ordered it. Once it arrived at our table, I got really excited because I thought the drink came with candy.

They brought out the drink you see above, and my first reaction was to try to eat the candy until I was told that I was supposed to put it in the drink. The idea intrigued me, so I obliged and was pleasantly surprised. What ended up happening was that the cotton candy dissolved and made the club soda transform into a lightly strawberry flavored Shirley temple. I was considering adding this to an upcoming list post that I’m working on, and I very well may add it. But I couldn’t just let this awesome drink be another number.

At first, I was breaking off pieces of candy to dunk into the soda. But I needed it to be pinker. By the end the entire fluffy, delicious candy made its way into the soda- and I didn’t even get to eat it. In the end, I’m not too upset, because it was delicious.

This drink knocked my socks off and made me feel like a kid again. I still feel a little silly for being so impressed by this, as well forgetting what cotton candy is made of. If you’ve ever imagined a strawberry Shirley temple, and thought to yourself “I want that”, this is the drink for you!  I think this is definitely something to explore with different colors of cotton candy, so get on it O’Charley’s. I might actually get on that when I can because I’m genuinely wanting to play with this idea now… for science.

I’m not even upset that I couldn’t eat the cotton candy

Also, you guys don’t have to take my word for it- if there was any doubt! I apologize for the weird, jumpy quality of the gif (for some reason my phone didn’t want to keep the focus stable even though it was literally sitting on the table). I definitely recommend this drink for your inner child!
